Default Help with ULEV accord!

Hi all!

I've got a 2002 Accord LX ULEV, and it's just too damn weak. It makes a lot of noise, and it can run reasonably fast up top, but it's got no low-end torque. I know the ULEV setup is at least partially at fault, and I was hoping someone could give me some pointers on bypassing it or doing away with it altogether. I don't want to spend a lot of money on performance upgrades, just to have the ULEV counteract them all! Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Matt

Heh. I hope you know that ULEV has no big effects whatsoever. You just have 148 hp/150 tq at the crank. 2 hp/tq less than the regular VTEC engine. Don't know how can feel that small difference.

Yeah, I know it's only a difference of 2 hp/tq, but that's at peak. ULEV engines are tuned to keep the fuel/air ratio thin, so there's noticeably less power at the low end. It takes quite a while to get the RPMs up to where the VTEC kicks in. I can definitely feel the difference between my manual LX ULEV and my aunt's auto LX LEV.

Indeed. A simple aftermarket intake will make you feel like you have at least some power. Mainly because of the added noise. It should increase power to just above the 150 hp/152 tq at the crank for a F23A1. F23A4 is ULEV-VTEC, in case you didn't know.

Thanks. And no, I didn't know the engine name, Crono. That should come in handy. Thanks again!

My brother has ULEV LX and I have LEV EX. I don't think his LX is any slower than my EX. I actually think it is a little faster. The LX feels lighter than the EX.
