Default ok i need everyones opinion here please every one read and let mek now what you think

ok well heres the situation. I had my car worked on over the weekend at inline four and they notified me that my head gasket is leaking. also I have a y1 tranny that grinds in 3rd and dosent do to well in 4th either.

first things first is there any possibility that my head gasket leaking could be due to the head bolts not torqued correctly?? my friend did my my swap about a year ago and i know he didnt do it. Ive had a small oil leak the whole time but i was told it was the cam seal. I just recently had that replaced and it didnt fix the problem its still leaking so i was just wondering if re tourqueing the head bolts may fix my problem???

also if i can not fix it that simply I need an opinion on what i should do about it. I would not feel confident on doing a headgasket on a motor myself unless it was already out of the car. I know I have the skilss but it would take me a while beign that ive never done it before and i cant afford the down time on my car.

so heres what i was thinking the head gasket labor and all would cost me about 500-600 dollars and also with my bad tranny im looking at 300-400 to get another that is if I can even find one. So i was considering buying another b16 long block and tranny and keeping it in my garage and building it with all type r internals. i figured on about 3200 dollars for everything including pistons, cams, multi angle valve job and valves ,springs, retainers, baffled oil pan and 2 ply headgasket, timing belt and waterpump. if i do all the work myself which I could because I could take my time. Then when it was all said and done in about 3 months from now. I could pull my old motor and put the new one in. then take my old one put a new head gasket on it and sell it.

what do you guys think? im not really sure what to do so I need a few second opinions. thanx in advance.

For the 3200 plus the cost of the b16 with tranny (1000-1500) you could just buy an ITR motor/ tranny and drop it right on in. (of course you would need Hasports not yet released cable / hydro conversion kit)

Of course this is just my opinion.

if you've got the money to front its always better to go with the spare motor and build. then you can either recover some of the cost by selling the motor you take out or keep it around incase you break something.

i agree with him^^^^^ but you do know your gonna have to replace some stuff on the b16 too.......dont do it yourself unless you really know what your doing because you could **** **** up and then just dig a deeper hole for yourself.....and thats a huge problem because you spend more money....a headgasket is easy to do on the other hand but if your not 100% sure that you know what your doing then dont do it....this is what i say----buy the b16....build the hell out of it with a shops help.....and have an all motor 13 second engine...drop it in....and take your old one and fix the problem and sell it and get haha a couple bills for it....youll love that in the long run because even though your car will be down its worth wuping peoples asses once you get the swap finished.......check the rear main seal for the oil leak too

I dont know where you can get an ITR engine/tranny for $3200.00, but he has the right idea for about that same amount I got b18c jdm gsr with a cable tranny and quaife lsd for about 3600.00. I like my b18 almost stock much better than my b16, fully built and when the Hasport mounts are realesed, even better. and/or another idea is I like having my trusty/rusty 90 civic for driving in the winter it's really nice to not have to drive your good car sometimes, I bought mine for 300.00 and dropped a 95 d16 in for another 150.00 awesome winter beater

i cant buy an itr with tranny for 3200 if you read my post I was going to buy a b16 and buy all type r internals and build it that way. Also I can get a b16b with tranny for 3799. and prolly sell the tranny off of it for about 1000( is that accurate?) but my only problem is how hard would it be for me to source another b series cable tranny?

Also to answer everyones questions about my own skills... im pretty confident in doing it but the reason I didnt want to do it with the motor in the car is because I cant afford alot of down time. I know exactly how to do it. I just have never physically done it. thats why I just want a second motor so I could take my time in doing it.
