automatic transmission going downhill??
Hey I had a problem today at school...it was raining outside all day and when I go to leave school and start my car, there is a green square around d4....i had this problem a while ago too. When there is a red square around p and a green one around d4 at the same time....my car would not shift between gears for love or money. I talked to this guy and he said it was the ecu. He replaced something on tehre and it worked fine for a while. Today...the same lights came on at the same time and I tried to drive it, made it about 20 feet, and then all the drive lights shut off and it sounded like my car was upshifting and downshifting back to back. I leave work today and the same exact thing happens......is it a wet wire connection or is it the transmission or is it the ecu or does anyone know what i'm talking about? Any suggestions much appreciated
does it shift when you enable the lockout bypass? if it does then you gotta replace the lockout switch. Mechanics often say ECU when they have no clue as to what is really wrong.... I would look at other options before I replaced the ECU for the transmission.
Remove your shift solenoids and clean them. While your at it, remove the lock-up solenoids and clean them too.
They are the four solenoids on the side of the transmission.
EDIT: also, have your transmission flushed and refilled.

how do I do this? will i mess up anything buy taking them off and on?
how or what part of it are you suppose to clean?

Oh, sorry homies. Just now looked at this thread again.
There are two sets of 2 solenoids on the side (front of vehicle) of the tranny.
The top set is the lock-up solenoid assembly and the bottom set is the shift solenoid assembly.
There are 3 bolts that hold each assembly on. I can't remember what size the bolts are, but they are small.
First thing, disconnect the 2-pin connector and test the impedance of the solenoids. Each pin in the connector is for a solenoid. They should read like 12-20 ohms or something like that.
If thats good, go ahead and remove the assembly and there is a screen/gasket under them. Make sure that filter is clean and the gaske part of it is good.
Then just clean up the solenoids and if it still does it then its a big problem.

hum thanks for the info.
I'll do that when my tranny is giving me problems. So far its great. (93)
I just don't know about testing it or whatever for the right ohmz

You'll just need to get a multimeter and set it to ohms. Then disconnect the plug (that goes to the solenoids). Connect the red lead of the MM to 1 of the pins in the connector, and the black lead of the MM, to a good ground. It should read 12-24 ohms. If not, your solenoids have gimped out on you.
Do the same for the other pin in the connector.
