More Type-R Misinformation
This is getting old now. First the idiot salespeople at dealerships, then magazines, now TV shows. I was watching Motor Week on Speedvision last night, and they were test driving an RSX Type-S. When talking about performance figures, here's what they said:
"The RSX Type-S goes 0-60 in 6.9s, and the 1/4 mile in 15.4s. This is a hair faster than the race inspired Type-R we tested in '97."
What? Last I checked, the Type-R runs, on average, a 6.5s time of 0-60. And the 1/4 mile is about 14.8s. In both categories, the Type-R is actually faster by .5 second.
And then they went on to say how the Type-R was a great car, but it was stripped down and had no "amenities". The RSX Type-S "takes things a step further, not only with better performance numbers, but a host of luxury items that make it a better daily driver."
Dammit, idiot salespeople are one thing, but when a TV show makes bogus claims like this, I can't stand it.

Hehe,
You guys need to chill
Who cares?
How often are we laughing at the crap people pring.
To play devil's advocate, I've heard that new stock RSX Type S are running mid 14s at the drag strip...
As for 0-60, that's a garbage number to compare anyway...

Just because you or magazines you read can do quicker times doesn't mean anything. They are comparing the way they test cars their way. Maybe they do both tests with a passenger like some UK magazines. Maybe they put 200 pounds of test equipment in the trunk with a full tank of gas. Maybe they shift at redline. Maybe they shift 500 rpm below.
Most magazines and shows have shown that the Type S is indeed faster than the Type R. You can't compare times from different magazines or shows to each other because their testing procedures are different. They are consistent only to compare to other cars tested by the same magazine or show.
I read on here somebody dragged his bone stock Type S and pulled a 14.3. It sounds to me that the RSX is indeed the faster car.

I love boasting a sub 5sec 0-60 number to the V8 heads and ricers..........F 0-60 more like 0-140 then threshold brake, then 35-110, then threshold brake, then etc............................................... ..................................................

Well, imo,Nissan in the U.S has been in the **** hole.I have to disagree with you on the Honda one.Remember we got the Type S,not the Type R.The car is a step foward. It is not like a stock Gs-r is something to get all excited over, well neither is the type S.However, from what I understand the new Type R is a different story.
I wasnt going to even dignify that comment with a response, but here goes. Honda will be bringing the Prelude back as a RWD car. NSX will be kicking *** in a few years. S2000 still going strong, and an Integra replacement that is almost as strong as the G3 ITR. Sounds like they're going down the ******* to me.
And let's not forget Nissan - bringing the Z back to the U.S.? Horrible! And the new Sentra SE-R Spec-V with 175hp/175tq? Why don't we get these cars in the U.S., America sucks!
The Skyline everyone has been bitching about is the sedan, which has very little in common with the AWD Twin-turbo refrigerator we all wet-dream about. Believe it or not there are some Skylines which have automatic transmissions and don't run 13's. If we get the R35 Skyline GT-R coupe it will look a lot different and will have different architecture. So stop complaining, please!

Yeah I agree with you that Nissan, of all Japanese manufacturers, holds back the most goodies from the US Market. Honda might deny us the CTR, but Nissan has the Silvia, Z, Skyline, tons of great sports cars. One reason why they haven't sent anything in a while is because they were in huge financial trouble. As the company heals its wounds, expect more cars to make their way here.
About Honda keeping the RSX-R - what's your reason for saying so? They already have it made over there. They sold it here with great success. The manufacturers are just now starting to appreciate the US' demand for cars like it. Why would they screw themselves over by giving the pocket-rocket market up completely? Think about it.

i heard they werent bring the Rsx type r.. I heard they werent even gonna think about it. I heard they were only gonna send the ctr. In a couple of years of course..
Time can prove if RSX Type S is faster than Type R, even if a Type S is faster than my R, they are still two different animals in my mind, the driving pleasure that you get from a Type R is very different from 99.5% than all the cars on US market....
Personally, I wouldn't mind if I was smoked by a Type S......

heh, misinformation indeed.
I read they will never bring the CTR to the U.S. because it would step into sales of the new Civic Si and that car will already be in "deep doo doo" as a low production, low profit maker when compared to the usual offers (non-performance machines) from US Honda.
The RSX-R will be arriving in the US late next year or perhaps not even until 2003. This is a similar move... to avoid crossing market share with the Civic Si and the RSX-S. They also have to spread out the "hey it's a new model" fever whenever possible in the U.S. market, because we are so stuck new new new. Yes I know there are some purists/enthusiasts that want one because it fits our perfect-for-me-model of a car.
The RSX-S is a strong performer AND a good value.
Much more so when compared to the price/performance differences between G3 GSR and ITR.
--->Can you imagine the difference in price between a RSX-S and RSX-R if both were available today but here in the U.S. (and the RSX-R was in full JDM trim-Recaro/Brembo/etc.) ?
I wish the CTR and RSX-R were already here, I would try my hardest to own BOTH.

..."someone", "might have", parked their R around the corner and went on a salesmanless head to head "test" drive(RSX-S)... to find that it pulls very nice/is a huge improvment/and has a bright future if the aftermarket follows... if a stock RSX-S pulls up next to your stock 2000' R for a stoplight drag, don't sweat it, but you better launch well and not miss a shift...
Make sure you don't buy a wht RSX-S here with over 2800 "demo" miles
