Default stupid ls/vtec!! i need help??

well this is the second time I have put rings in my engine. Fisrt time was after the initial build.
My setup:
b18a bottom end W/ eagle rods and srp pistons
top end is gsr head with mild work and stage 3 cams

any way it blows smoke like a mother f..cker. First time I assumed the rings never seated do to too fine of a hone. this time I used a rough hone and honed the **** out of it. 150mi later this time it blows smoke just as bad. the head was vacuum checked at the machine shop so the valve seats are all good.

I have a feeling that the head isnt mateing with the block somehow. All I know is that I did everything necessary to put them together. reloxcated dowels, drilled exhaust side rivets out of head gasket, lots of copper seal, torqued to 73 ft. I checked the dowels to make sure they arnet too tall and everything is good there. I am loosing oil and I really dont think it could be the rings this time....

any input or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Make sure that it's actually the rings leaking before you replace them this time. Make sure the deck and head mating surface are square.

If the rings keep failing to seat properly, maybe it's time to check the crankshaft.

last set of rings I did a leak down and I had 95,95,95,85-90ish. So I assumed number four was the problem. I havent done a leakdown yet on this set but I only have about 170mi on them and still smoking pretty bad. How long does it normally take to seat rings?? I dont think that these ones will seat either, unless I am getting oil in the chamber but how??? I doubt that the rings wouldnt seat the second time. we really honed it good this time. the block was decked to SRP's requirements for the pistons.head wasn't milled at all.

how could the crank cause my rings not to seat?? I am leaning more towards a head gasket problem. what should I check for because I am out of Ideas. also what should I check for if I do another leakdown?

Check your valve stem seals.

I had the same problem before...replaced the rings and shaved both block and head and it finally solved it...what headgasket are you using?

Valve seals were already vacuum tested before reassembly. The block was decked but the head was left alone. the gasket I am using is felpro. I would use oem honda but I see absolutely nothing different in comparison, plus for some stupid reason none of the acura dealers cary the head gasket.

well I did another compression check today and I had 275-280 across the board except for number4 which was165. I then took some oil and dumped it into number four and did another compression check and I almost broke the guage it shot up so high, atleast 50 more. This pretty much means that my rings arent seated right?

I'm with pro1342. If I had to guess, I'd say it was headgasket related. Especially since you say that there was no machine work done to resurface the head. It couldn't hurt for you to send the head to your local machine shop to at least have them check and see if it needs to be resurfaced...just my .02

If your compression jumped up after putting some oil in the cylinder.
It is most likely your compression rings that are not sealing. You may need to change them out on that one cylinder.

compression numbers suck in that cylinder but all 4 of the spark plugs are soaked with oil.

plugs soaked in oil = time for new rings.
