When your driving your car, does it sound somewhat of a ticking? Not so much of knocking, but a ticking sound. My car tends to do the same thing. When the temp is cold outside, the ticking is a bit louder.

I went to get a valve adjustment to see if the problem would stop, but the thing is, is that i had gotten a valve adjustment 6 months prior to the problem. My mechanic looked into the problem more, and it turns out that its the Lost Motion Assembly.

Hope the info helped a little.

yea check ur oil, my friends mitsubishi was making a knockin noise... i pulled out his dip stick and the oil was baked onto the stick and no oil in the engine. You hadda see this knocking stop after he added oil. the damage was done anyway ! good luck

98 accord...5 speeds are sometimes not enough

For the knocking... you can also try to use higher octane, such as race gas.. which is $$$, or just use an octane booster. if the knocking goes away, then , if not then, could be that you need a valve adjustment.

as for the low oil... i dont think the knocking could be from that... if there was no oil and you ran your car like that... then the motor would blow...

he also told me that the prob could be that the consistency of the oil is too thick, which is causing the valve lifter to not operate at the normal speed. in other words, the thickness of the oil slows the lifters down. the oil im using is 10W-30... he sugguested that i use 5W-30

according to the honda charts all 1994 and newer accords are supposed to use 5w30 or thinner (newer models) no wonder your car sounds like a sewing machine......

yes, if you have turbo, you are supposed to use thicker oil. i'd say 15/50... but not sure...

accords are known for notoriously loud rocker arms and valves.....unless it's a lot louder than it used to be, I wouldn't be tooooo worried about. Just make sure your oil level is good as mentioned, and if you have more than 40,000 miles on the car and havn't had a valve adjustment....get one.
