Default Axel Removal, help me determine the damage...

Ok guys, I'm currently TRYING to remove my axels so I can put in a new clutch. I'm unable to remove the axel from the hub so far. I'm currently letting it soak with PB blaster in hopes that it will free up. Do you guys have any tips if the PB doesn't work?

While trying to remove the ball joint from the lower control arm I ended up having to use a ball joint seperator and I tore up the boot pretty badly. Do I just need a new boot? Or will I likely need to replace the ball joint as well?

So far I've only started on the drivers side and my results are less than encouraging.

my axles came right out. Make sure to release the bolts on the carrier bearing on the driver side. then it pulls right out with a little tug.

I cracked the ball joint boot also. I was looking at some aftermarket control arms from http://www.modacar.com

Don't have the info you want, just thought i would say i had the same experience.

No need to remove the axle from the HUB. Just pull it out of the tranny and rotate the hub so the axle in back out of the way.

AS for the balljoint.. you will need to press in a new one. If the tear is small, you can RTV it, but it will not last too much longer (maybe a few months, depends on how/where you drive)

Once the nuts off hit it with a hammer. If you take a different approach like taking the spindle out attached to the axle it might work out better. then all you have to do is slide the axle out of the tranny. The axles will slide out pry a little with a screw driver the only thing on the integra is the intermediate shaft which has 3 bolts connecting it to the block. Disconnect those before trying to pull the axle out.

I should have mentioned that the axle is bad anyway, and needs to be replaced. With the ball joint, can I buy a new boot and just replace the ripped boot? The joint still moves very freely.

I hope it doesn't move too freely.

Just replace the boot and repack it with some grease if needed.

I said new ball joint because the boots are hard to get right, and usually fail.

Interesting. I'll have to go back and check the five or so that I've installed on two different cars to see how they're doing.

Ok, well tonight we just pulled the whole thing out as one piece and I'm going to take it somewhere tomorrow to see if they can get this stuff apart. I couldn't even get the outer axle to seperate from the intermediate shaft / holder. The strange thing is that the passenger side came out without even having to TAP it with a hammer.

Anyway, at this point I guess I'll be ordering new seals and boots for everything that is leaking / busted. Turns out my steering ball joints both had bad seals anyway.

To separate the lower control arm from the spindle, I always smack the LCA a few times w/ a hammer, then raise the suspension up w/ a jack, wedge a ratchet handle in between the spindle and LCA (on the back side right next to the balljoint boot) and then let the jack down. This will usually force the balljoint out of the LCA.

If it still hasn't popped or the coilovers aren't installed, put your weight on the caliper.

Thanks for the suggestion, I kind of tried that prior to using the pickle fork ball joint splitter on the drivers side but it was just too stuck. I ended up using a ball joint puller that on the passenger side that worked very well. I think the real problem is that everything is just SERIOUSLY STUCK.
