The car has 2000 miles with some hard track sessions. I'm attending another event this weekend. Should I go ahead and change the oil? My assumption is yes.

Mobil 1 synthetic can last up past 10k miles if driven decently (track events and racing do not count)

Mobil originally advertised it as such but then sales went down so they went back to about 5k miles to get the more $$$ flow.

Other synthetic oil companies say even higher when they advertise, up past 20k miles.

I change my Mobil 1 every 3-5k miles just to be safe.

 

Hey, you can probably get as many opinions on how frequently to change the oil as you can get on what kind of oil to use. That being said...

If you only have 2000 miles on the car since it was new, I would wait, since you still have the special break-in oil in the engine. I had a couple of track events on mine at that point. I checked the oil level (added a quart of Mobil 1, in fact) but didn't change it out until 4000 miles. Now I'm back to my usual routine, changing the oil every 3750 miles (it lines up well with the service intervals) or 4 months, whichever comes first. Mobil 1 5W30.
