Hondata tuning rev limit question
Hi everyone, I am getting my Hondata Tuned tommorow...my setup is Jun3 cams, Valve Springs and AJR Retainers, and Jun Header (and like the usual stuff such as spoon n1, spoon cam gears, spoon headgasket, comtech cai)
Anyway, I am running a carsound cat right now...however, my cat has a bottleneck (a small outlet no thanks to my smart mechanic)...I plan to get a new flange for it but I probably won't have enough time till after the tuning...so my question is, should I tune with the cat even though the flow would not be as good, or should I run a test pipe to tune and put the cat back on later (I heard I will kill the cat by doing this)?
Also, even though I don't plan to drag race much with my car, I plan to take it to the strip with my friends for bragging rights once in a while and I would like to cross the 1/4 mile in 3rd gear (Stock Rims and Tires)...what Rev limit should I have in that case and do you guys recommend that?
Thanks alot for reading...Your Reply is Much Appreciated

While I don't condone the use of offroad equipment on the street....the justification perhaps is something that will make the tree huggers feel a BIT better.
Even with no cat, I'm sure our cars produce less emissions than the fuming buses and trucks that circulate our fair city.
With that said, if you don't want the headaches, just run a testpipe for the time being...tune it and then save up enough money to throw the carsound back on with the proper flange. Sell or return (if borrowed) the testpipe.
While your AF might be a bit off, I highly doubt it will be enough to kill the cat....ofcourse...somebody else might just make me eat my words....
Crossing the 1320 mark in 3rd? Will 9500rpm even do it? I'd just make the extra shift.....things get hairy at that high of RPM.... particularly when it'll likely be 10k rpm on the gauge....
But anyhow.... 9700rpm in 3rd will net you a 105mph trap.... that should be more than enough....my guess anyway.
Scary.....

Just tune it for how you it is now. You can take it back and fine tune it again after you take care of the bottleneck. I doubt its going to have a HUGE impact but who knows. Should only take a couple runs to retune after you remove the bottleneck.
I have my rev limit set at about 9500, and even if I dont get any spin off the line I cant cross the line in 3rd. I usually shift just before the line.
PS. dont destroy your motor by trying to rev to the moon and back just so you can cross the line in 3rd. chances are you arent making any significant power that high and would be better off shifting to 4th anyway.

thx for the help Raging Angel and RTW DC2
I guess I will just have the rev limit at 9000 rpm then
btw, I don't condone test pipes as well...that's why I have tried everything within my abilities to run a cat
