Getting a shop to do my H22 swap, but I have a few questions
OK...I found a shop that is going to do my swap for an H22 in my del Sol, but I have a couple of questions for you all...
1. When they get my engine, and I look at it, what should I look for to make sure that there isn't anything wrong with it and that it is really a JDM H22...I know I can't really bust the engine open and look at the internals, but what should I look for? Same goes for the transmission.
2. Would it be OK to not get lowering springs on the car right away as I might want to see the car with the new engine in first (I am assuming that the front end will be a bit lower and the rear a bit higher since the engine is going to be heavier)? I'm talking maybe a week, two weeks tops with the stock suspension.
3. If I am using integra 90-93 axles and an accord intermediate axle, will having the axles break be a large possibility? I'm going to be running an H22 with just boltons for a while, but I might wanna take it to the track.
4. What is the best place for prices to find an Accord AC belt, a pusher fan, and a del Sol VTEC radiator? I need all of those parts and I am wondering where I can get them the cheapest new...
Thanks.

1. I would take the valve cover off and just look at the color of the oil. If everything is all gold(the underside of the valve cover etc) then someone didnt change the oil that often and its gotten hot. Look for a nice shinny clean silver under the valve cover and on the cam caps. Also just look around the oil pan for wetness. Cant really tell much by the tranny unless you take it off the engine and then just look for alot of red dust or grease or oil. The less of any of these the better.
2. Sure it will be ok as long as you dont try and do any road racing on some back roads. I would take it vert easy in the curves until you get some suspension. Make sure to get some integra of heavier spring rated and some nice stiff shocks. Also a front and rear sway bar would be nice if you dont already have them.
3. I had this axle setup in my 97 Ek and had no problems for the 4 months that i had the motor. I was pretty hard on it also. They should be fine just make sure you have the lifetime warranty at auto zone and you can just trade them in.
4. For the radiator i would look in your local phone book for a nice radiator shop. Call them up and ask for a delsol vtec radiator or a automatic ex civic radiator. Should be about 100 bucks and will do the job great. Any other parts just go to ethier Honda or you local Advanced or something.
Good luck and youll love the swap.

Make sure everything is clean and soldered connections. Make also sure the CEL does NOT come on at any time, check the codes to make sure they are clear, also make sure the CEL bulb is in the gauge cluster.
Just over all inspect it and make sure they have done a clean and quality job, and you'll be fine. Also make sure there is a warranty.

IF you want to make sure it is a JDM H22 motor - look at the block stamp, it should read H22A, not H22A1 or H22A4. Now, if it says H22A7 - just shut up and install the engine

hmm i saw alot of grease inside my friends b16 tranny. this is when we took it out to change the clutch. what might have caused it?

turn your car key over to the ACC and look for the CEL to come on with your other lights (seat belt, door ajar, emergency brake) if it doesnt turn on with the rest of them, rip your dash apart and see if they might've taken the bulb out or disconnected it. Shady shops used to do that back in the day, but that usually doesnt happen that much anymore, but still...always be cautious.
OK, thanks, I thought that was how you got it to come on momentarily, but I wasn't sure...thanks for all the help guys...if I have any more questions during the process of the swap I hope you will help me cuz I am sure something will come up.
