Ok, so I'm installing a Mugen oil pan, and upon removal of the old oil pan, I find a few things. First, there's a dent in the bottom of the old pan like someone bottomed out at some point (my brother I'm guessing...foolish boy). The pickup is I think right above where the dent is, so I'm worried it was damaged. I had heard to check the pan for scoring, and there didn't appear to be any, but I'm still not certain. What is the pickup supposed to look like? is the part that comes down to the oil pan supposed to be flat, or a little concave? I'll post pics of the pan later, need some resizing...
My second question was, when I took off the old gasket, it had some kind of sealant at certain points, is this necessary or can I just put the gasket in there without it?
Lastly, do I need to clean the new pan in any way, or is just wiping out the big particles good enough?
Thanks all for the help.

Dammit...Zerosearch needs to be my bitch. Instead, it's the pimp and I'm the ****. Thanks for the assistance CircuitSi, that helps a lot. Anyone care to take a crack at the oil pickup thing?
the sealent that you see is to hold the gasket from shifting when installing. it helps to some how fasten the gasket to the pan. also MAKE sure you torque the pan bolts to spec or else its gunna leak. not to tight. just hand tight. torque it its better. the pick up should be okay but if it is bent or pinched it may effect the vtec system(due to oil pressure). also yeah i'd clean the pan use brake cleaner. umm yeah thats about it.! good luck!

gasket maker and a gasket dont mix very well unless you want leaks.
Adam , make sure you torque to proper specs also.

I dont have any leaks...
I put very very small dabs of Honda bond in the same places that the factory stuff was, after i scraped it off. The bonus was that i could lay the gasket up onto the block surface and make sure it was seated.
Use a mirror on a stick to make sure the gasket is seated.... its easy to shift out of place.
