hrm... GRRR sound at 3k to 3,250 about...
well 1st off its a gs-r 98 w/ 74k miles on it, its all stock as far as i kno i bought it like a 2 to 3months ago. its got a no-namer generic short ram intake and all else is stock. every gear wen it revs 3k to 3,250 about.... it makes a grinding'ish growl noize, doesnt sounds terrible but is noticeable, and was wondering is it the getto no-namer intake? or sumpn else? any clues?
is this only happening when you give more gas?? Intakes tend to make louder noises when your on the pedal more. Try giving a lil gas slowly and going up and see if it still makes that noise.
Isnt it a problem with all GS-Rs? from 3000-4000 RPM the most pressure is built up, and its a small crack or some **** in the header. replace the header w/ aftermarket one and it will change. i have same problem.
Why.. am.. I.. a... trial member. I really need to PM someone and post elsewhere besides this "main forum." Shouldnt there be at least a FAQ or somthing? Is this one of those forums where you have to spam to be a real member? I like to read.. and share knowledge whenever I can. I hope i dont need 15 posts or somthing stupid just to be able to PM...

GSR's are known to have that nasty raspy growl... its most COMMONLY the B-PIPE. When people get an aftermarket header...what happens to the b-pipe? Gets replaced
. The b-pipes in GSRs (not too sure if non gsrs also have the same problem occurance) are prone to cracking. Like what a member mentioned in the previous posts, most of the pressure is built in that range.
Clear enuff' for you?
cheers

i hope its the no-namer intake, my friends are making scary comments like... "maybe the original owner mis-shifted from like 3rd to 2nd one tym and over'rev'd and might have damaged the motor" anyone have any more input on this? thanks,

When poeple get an aftermarket exhaust they replace the B-Pipe. I believe very rarely would someone buy a header and replace the long *** B pipe as well. Also he never ever stated that he had an aftermarket header, so no it probably doesn't look familar to him, and that B-Pipe that comes with the JG is not a true B-Pipe, thats just a catalytic replacement/dump pipe.
Also as far as the exhaust is concerned it could be the heat shields on the catalytic converter and eleswhere.

Oh my god.. me and nightrider clearly stated your problem redlinex... REEEEEEEEEAD
Also, its not the heat shield.. if its building up at 3-4 RPM and has all these same symptoms, i doubt its a loose heat shield.

Yeah man just replace the header most likely, went away when I switched mine out.

Why thank you for correcting my overlooked aforementioned statements. I know many people who have bought a header and replaced the B-pipe with either its OEM counterpart from another car (such as a Type-R) or an OPTIONAL racing B-pipe like the one for the JG header (they do not come with it BTW
).
It happens seldom that the cat heatshield to become the problem. As stated from before and I will state it again just so its clear for those who actually read previous posts (this is not direct to you Westrock); between 3000-4000RPMS, the pressure from the exhaust gasses build up pretty hard which at common times (should I say overtime), cause the B-pipe in 94-01 Integras to crack, thus causing that nasty growl.
The intake, name brand or what not, ENHANCES that growl. I speak from experience, reliable sources and plenty of reading.
cheers
