weird whistling noise..
Hey, I have a problem and I don't know if it is a big deal or not but I figured I'd post it here to see if anyone else has had it or knows what it could be.
It only happens when its cold. It's been really cold here lately and it mostly happens at night but during the day if it is cold enough. Between 2500-3000 RPM's there is a very slight whistling noise. It also sounds like it could be metal scraping together. The sound normally goes away if I let off the gas. Any Ideas?

I have a similar problem only when I apply a certain amount of gas. Ive learn to just deal with it. Very well could be coming from your intake. Are you boosted?

An Intake can cause a whistling noise even when its not cold..its your throttle opening and closing therefore causing it to whistle..i have a aem v2 intake and it does the same its normal to hear the ''whistling sound''

It's probably just your intake, nothing else will really create that kind of whisteling sound. The sound of metal scraping on metal is a whole other issue though, best bet would be to figure out if it's a whistle or a scrape.

Re: (celtic11)
i had a supercharged b16a2, with a short-ram intake: no whistling! the dumb-*** motor blew, so i got a b18c, with the same short-ram intake, and all of a sudden i had a whistling noise! i kinda like it . anyway, have someone rev your motor to the point that it whistles, while you are outside of the car(obviously). anyway, check if the noise IS coming from the intake or not? like one of the prior replies said: put your stock air-box back in, and see if the sound is gone? good luck!!!

is the hose that goes out of the arm of the intake on all the way? I think it goes to allow the valves to breathe....that one, if that hole isn't capped off that creates a whistling noise...

I have that same whistle, i seem to like it.....do you have a low idle like if the car sort of wants to turn off? If you do its a lil screw on the throttle body that you just have to loosen up. When that lil screw is a lil tightened, it creates a lil whistle....the screw is located on the top of the throttle body, all you need is a flat head screw driver, the screw should be right next to the lil map sensor on top of the throttle body. After you loosen it up a lil your idle will go back to normal and you wont get that whistle sound anymore.

i'm surprised that this subject is still coming up...
it is either an intake or the throttle body plate that is causing the whistling noise. some cars do it and some dont. i guess what single-slam said can fix it, but i haven't had a problem with just leaving mine as it is...searching helps to figure out a lot of problems, and saves everyone time
