Redline grease is a bitch to clean Axle boots are good, when they stay on...

Uhm, I think there's something missing from this picture. Taken at about 11pm. Literally, the eleventh hour.

On the good side. Here's my oil pan baffles made by SGT and welded in by SMSP.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

So it's 11am... The day we're supposed to leave. The rebuilt motor lunched itself. We really don't understand wtf happened. Just the bottom end. In fact, it ate itself with the head off. Bits of sleeve are sitting in the bottom. wtf.

So... Steve's pulling his motor from his civic and putting it in. This is Zyg's tired *** 100k+ bottom end. Doh.

What a weekend. Ed's old block plus my refreshed head turned out to be a pretty effective combo for the weekend.

I'm totally beat. I just got back home from SGT's shop. Got some **** news though. Steve took apart my old block while I was there. We found out why it ate itself. Apparently when he put the head back on, the sleeve cracked. Guess the overheating did more damage than we initially thought Since we can't sleeve for HC either, it's gotta find a new home.

#237 just became a heart donor. Race report later. Sleep now.

Very nice. I favor the simplicity over the fancy trap door types.

Glad to see that you could put the engine back together in time for the race.

Dont you think the side (vertical) baffles would be needed too?

Im curious as to why they were not used.

I was thinking the same thing...looks like I need to find some sheet metal, and a person that knows what they're doing welding and weld up this here pan I appropriated

Okay, jeez. We just found the REAL reason why the sleeve sunk. Turns out the machine shop made a wheee little error and overbored one cylinder. So he tried to re-line that one cylinder, without telling us. It didn't have enough strength at just the bottom to hold it up.

So the block isn't dead after all. It's just getting that one sleeve fixed... again...

Make sure you overbore them again, too.
