Default installed new shift linkage and SS, play while in gear?

I just installed a new hasport shift linkage on my crx tonight.... and a skunk2 SS. I noticed when the car is in gear, it has side to side play, almost like it is in neutral. Has anybody else experienced this before, have i done something wrong?

i bought my car 3 years ago and the shifter did the exact same thing... then i looked in my Chilton's manual and figured out what it was... theres this little u-shaped dealie under the shift linkage that keeps the shifter from moving side-to-side (it would be located about 4" BEHIND your shifter on the little extended part of the linkage if your rex had it)

Are you talking about that rubber "boot" that bolts the linkage up in the rear?

I know that this is an old topic, but I also just installed a new HAsport linkage, and I've got the same weird-*** side to side play while in gear, you CAN'T find a single damn gear, cuz you can't tell what gear it's in to start with..... My guess is that it's the pin.. any ideas?? Could the pin be the prob?

ARe you refering to the bitch pin that bolts it up near the tranny? I dont think that is the source of the play.... Are you using a short throw shifter as well?
I know, it is very difficult knowing what gear you are in, i dont think i would let anybody ever drive my car with this setup........but now i have an excuse

Actually, I've got the stock shifter, but I'm about to put in a B&M short throw. I thought that it might be the pin because I had to machine one myself from a bolt, and I figure that it's too small to grab both holes. I'm gonna call honda and order a new pin... maybe that'll fix it, I'm also gonna put on the short shifter, and some new bushings. haha.. and if that doesn't work, I'm thinking about making a slotted metal plate for the shifter to slide in and out of.

lol...Amen to that... screw anti-theft, you can't steal what you can't get into gear.

You need to install the washers to eliminate the side to side movement...Your SS needs to be snug and tight against the shift linkage...

Weird, I just put the Hasport linkage and have the same problem - horrible feel, rubberish. Stock was much better...
Wondering where this play is coming from? It has to come from the transmission itself since that is where the "gates" are. It is almost impossible it would be the back of the shift linkage. More ideas anybody?

for most of you its that roll pin the holds the shift linkage to the shift rod. if thats not snug in here you will have play.

I am pretty sure that i put the washers in, i guess i have to double check. That is about the only thing that ic an think of to cause the play.... My pin went in fine and is still in good shape.

When I tighten mine I do it until its real tight than back it off a couple turns. Always works great.
