1st engine build...
I recently picked up a shortblock to build. I've got until next season to get it finished so I'm not in much of a hurry. What I am wondering is what I should use for internals?
My thinking is that I should use shotpeened OEM rods and JDM OEM pistons for a slight bump in compression. I can get these items for less than the price of a set of Wiseco's. Then if I happen to mess something up in the engine build I'll be able to learn from it and won't have lost thousands of dollars in parts.
However, if building a motor isn't as hard as I am making it out to be, then it would probably be more cost effective just to drop the big bucks for forged internals now instead of later.
What do yall think? Am I making this harder than it should be?

yo man long time no see, but its not that hard i got my b16 built a friend cam eover and helped me but it really isnt as hard as ppl make it out to be, i would just go with the forged internals now because i know your sprayin
Yeah get the forged to start off with. Pick up a helms and take your time with the build. Also make sure you have a good torque wrench, calipers, a feeler guages, and make sure you get your machining done by a good shop. Dont halfass the machining.
