$%! My Jeep won't start!!!
Okay, this whole "going to the racetrack" thing would be a lot easier if my friggin tow vehicle would start.
Waiting for the tow truck for the tow vehicle.... with an 8 hour tow to the track ahead of me.....

come on man, do it right if you are going to do it.
get a terminal cleaner from Pep Boys (cylinder thingy with an internal wire brush. mix up a little baking soda and water. tooth brush it on the terminals. wipe it off. use the terminal brush till its nice and shiny and clean. wipe everything down with a WD40 soaked rag. apply some anticorrosion terminal gel to the terminals. check all the wires and the terminal attachements for corrosion and wear. replace if needed (Pep Boys!). use new hardware and reattach everything. should be good to go (if that was your problem). don't forget to check the battery and recharge if needed; bad grounds/wires/corroded terminals will keep the battery from charging correctly....

PS can you tell i was brought up on a farm with lots and lots of old tractors? this was a sequence i performed many times on lots of different equipment....

I was also brought up a farm, but my dad used a pocket knife to scrape the battery terminals. I introduced him to "new technology", such as battery terminal brushs (and ratchet wrenches, for that matter).
I now have the tractor that he and I rebuilt the engine in when I was in 9th grade.
We had the benefit of being able to park our tractors on a hill, so the starters (and generators) didn't always need to work.
I still dislike not being able to push-start vehicles with an automatic...
