It is essential that you have very good ground and a low resistance lead for your positive main. i used 4 guage for the lead to a power distributor located in the engine compartment which then splits to 8 guage to the main breaker and starter.
since the relocation, even though my battery is low on the fluid which leads to the alternator whine for a bit after the start, the lights, spark and starting is more consistent. i will have to replace the sick battery with something sealed and install a volt meter to really measure the drawbacks/benefits of the entire procedure.

if i am correct…
batteries produce hydrogen gas when they are charging and discharging. If a spark somehow finds a concentration of the ydrogen it can blow up. I have seen a battery blow before and its not good. I would strongly suggest a sealed gel type battery.
just some gen info for peeps.

you are correct, which is why a sealed, vented box is needed.

I bought some 000 gauge wire from a fork lift supply store..(they had no red so I painted the end of the pos red) I got a plastic battery tie down box form AutoZone, the connections, and removed the spare tire in the Crx hatch. I then soldered the end ties to the wire, drilled a mounting bracket(holes) in the hatch, fitted the box, placed inside the Optima Battery, sent the wire through the inside of the car to the engine bay via drain plug? and connected. It starts up without hesetation, and there is no danger of the Optima blowing up and killing me or my Crx. I think the cables are 12' long each.... Good luck.
