fuel rail w/injectors removed and the car runs!
yes its true and we dont know what the hell is going on, maybe demons or something.
so here is the background.
90 4dr civc lx converted from dx to zc. dohc zc installed. the thing was running on three cylinders with code 16 and 9 when I got there. I re-wired the injector harness and now no code 16. re did the cyl sensor and no more 9. checked all grounds, valvecover/head ground ok, harness ground ok, tranny ground ok!..
re-did wiring for injector box. checked all wires going from resistor box to injectors and injectors to ecu, everything fine. no crossed wires. jumped a13 and a11 on ecu for fuel pump and they turn the fuel pump ON. (grn/blk wires) went thru the helms manual for troubleshooting code 16, checked voltage on all 4 injectors, approx 2.0 volts when cranking. but after re-wiring injectors, no codes whatsoever. so now its not running. it was running with two check engine lights, but now with no CEL its NOT running. at all.
even pulled the fuel return line and fuel dumps out. so ecu is ok. main relay checked with helms troubleshooting is ok. now I will change main relay tomorrow.
oh yeah, we shot some starting fluid into the intake and the car ran for a few seconds, like 3-4 seconds, just fine until the fluid was gone, so electrical/timing/distributor is ok. I mean if it wasnt, it wouldnt run, right?
so there is a fuel problem somewhere..
we pull off the fuel injectors and fuel rail, point the injectors in the air and check for fuel spray.. and #1 sprays, and #3 sprays a little, so that would tell us that maybe from the previous wiring some of the injectors might have fried and its not letting us start, but get this... when we pulled the injectors OUT of the intake mani, the car ran! i swear, I dont know why, but it RAN for about 8 seconds until a flame shot out of the intake manifold and caught the engine on fire! we couldnt believe it! we put the fire out, didnt seem to burn much pretty much burned all the fuel that was squirted from the injectors. I know, stupid! very dumb, but we didnt understand how the motor ran without the injectors, we need a camcorder or something.. f*ckin crazy!
it wouldnt run with the injectors in it, but without them on the intake it ran!
so we are gonna change out the injectors tomorrow with a good running set. change out the main relay and after that if it dont work, run it off a cliff!
anyone else do stupid stuff like this? any help?
with starting fluid it would run, I guess i answered my own questions pretty much, replace injectors, replace main relay, throw car off cliff
any other inside would be great
other than the fire part, we know we know

Did you pull the vacuum hose off the FPR? Check if it's got gasoline in it.
The diaphragm in the FPR ruptures, so manifold vacuum pulls fuel thru the vacuum line into the manifold. That makes it so rich it won't start. Then when you pull out the injectors to spray them into the air, the IM is still getting fuel thru that vacuum hose.
ps... That's a kinda popular way for FPRs to fail on older Saabs. So I guess we could call this technology transfer from the SaabNet boards...

actually, yeah I did pull the vacuum line, but I didnt check it for fuel.. I will try that tho, thanks!
and thanks for not getting on my *** about being dumb too, we know that already
hahahah
