Default AEM intake question and install info

I installed my AEM CAI today complete with the air bypass valve. Installation was fairly easy. I did not have a rubbing problem with the AC lines and was able to use the supplied hosing to run from the valve cover. All I did was cut about 1" of each section of hosing, clamped them togther, and then connected it to AEM and the stock hose. My question is what exactly is the hose that runs into the intake. I noticed it splits again toward the valve cover.? Also I didn't disconnect the battery cable. Should I do this to reset the ECU to notice the increase air flow?

It should have come with two new rubber hoses, one that replaces the valve cover breather and one that replaces a coolant line. I assume that you instead left the black metal piece installed and connected the rubber hoses from that to the Intake? This method is fine IMO, I usually remove the metal piece for installs because, imo, it looks cleaner, but no biggie. The hose you are talking about is the valve cover breather, leave it connected or get a little breather filter and plug the hole in the AEM pipe.

You might as well reset the ECU, it's easy to do and wont hurt anything.
