since i was having trouble finding 12v 3 way solenoid valves,ive been trying to make a 2 stage boost controller with a 12v open /close 2 way valve and this is what ive come up with.
vaccum hose from intake manifold to 3 way tee
one end of tee to solenoid valve other
end of solenoied vented to atmosphere
other end of tee to manual boost controller
boost controller to wastegate actuator

i can see how this setup could work in theory,with solenoid closed, vaccum signal goues directly from intake ,to boost controller,to wastegate,giving you whatever boost you set the boost controller to.with the solenoid open the vaccum signal <U>should</U> completely bypass the boost controller and give you whatever max boost the actuator arm is set to give with the wastegate unplugged.
my question is ,is teeing the vaccume line a good idea?will the solenoid vent the line completely or will the actuator still be getting some kind of signal from the boost controller?
share your thoughts and ideas,i know you guys love diy stuff

my friend has a dual stage boost controller that cost about 10$ to make. heres how it goes. we used one of those little boxes that is next to map sensors on 88-91 hondas, it's got two wires coming off of it and3 vaccum lines. we have the wastegate line connected to that box. when the box has no charge it goes to one of the vaccum nipples that has a little home depot valve that is open about halfway, thus boosting 6psi, then when the box recieves power via a button on the shift **** it switches to the last remaining vaccum nipple on the black box where there is another **** that can be adjusted from anywhere around 8-17 psi. so he launches and pulls first at 6psi then hit's the button and runs 14psi. it works great and cost about $10 at homedepot for the two valves and i have several of the boxes laying around.

 

THis is what im going to build when i get a free minute.
Its an easy concept.

 

That picture above is exactly like I made mine. I used one of the idle control solenoids that was part of my A/C system (86 Civic). It's located on the firewall near the MAP sensor on these Civics/CRXs and 1st gen teg's. When no voltage present, air flows through the low resistance path through the solenoid and my boost is what my wastegate is set at (5psi). When I hit the microswitch at full throttle+, the solenoid closes, and the air is routed through my Grainger ball/spring MBC, and I get 10psi. The lines have to be really short and right at the turbo/wastegate to have it react in real time. I use mine for control in corners while autocrossing (low boost at part throttle = better control when cornering)

that is the same solenoid i'm talking about the idle one.

i guess I'll just stick with the EVAP Purge soleniod valve for mine 2 step

 

would you have to make a vent also?

 

would that work with an odb1 Idle air control valve? thats a great idea. I just made a inline MBC today and was thinking it would be great if i could rig up something like this

 

does anyone have a pic of this EF dual stage controller setup, i think i have the parts for it, but i am a little confused on it all.and everyone know pictures are wirth a thousand words.

jack one at the junk yard. man thats a great idea. I like the avcr and I want to buy it really bad. but I am also all about diy. I made my own t3 flange hehehe. took like a whole day.if anyone coulf just show a pic of where this solenoid moght be it would be great because I am fixin to go get one. couldn't you use this to bypass a normal boost controller if it decided to overboost or somthing dumb
?
