experience needed.....what boost can my built d-block take
I am purchasing a mini me with a 91 d16a6 block and a d16y8 head. the engine was rebuilt by professionals new bearings gaskets belts, LS rods, and brand new 9:1 compression DX pistons. The head has a stage four port and polish with a three angle valve job. I will be running a junkyard turbo setup with a t25, starion fmic, dsm 450 injectors and zdyne engine management. My last fully built zc (built by me) lasted one day (i reused old bearings on new crower rods). I really don't want this to happen again. My turbo is set at 10psi and i would boost any higher than that, will my engine survive? any experience with a similar setup? I still have the 9:1 JE forged pistons for the zc, should i throw those in? I know the have the same bore but i think the CR would be somewhere around 10 or 11:1. I might even be able to throw the whole setup with the crower rods and JE pistons if they weren't damaged when my zc spun a rod bearing (might have to be machined). Thanks for everyones expert advice

I was running a WRX turbo on my Stock ZC at 8 PSi. I dropped a valve and blew the whole motor. Really if it's a daily driver I wouldn't boost more then 8 or 9 EVEN if the motor can take it. First A honda at even only 2 PSi is faster then alot of street cars. Second there will always be a weak link somewhere. The higher boost the greater the chance of something blowing. I've seen stock LS/VTec's take 10-12PSi when tuned right. If your asking if you can push higher then 10 with everything you have done to the motor Yes but I would not do it for long until it's tuned to be running higher then that really.
After re-reading your post .Now are those just stock LS rods and stock Dx pistons being used for forged units. IT it's stock internal ( i.e. stock parts from other motors ) I'd say NO way boost that high with it. I have seen stock D series push 10 PSi daily driven but they are far and few
ok........so do you know what my best option for turning the boost down on the turbo is. the wastegate is set at 10psi, i know i can modify that rod that opens the wastegate but i really don't want to do that. I was thinking of setting the bov to 6-8 psi....its getto but it should do the trick. any commments to this. thanks
stock LS rods are fine, teh pistons i dont know about i woudl swap them if you can.
I run LS rods and SRP 9:1 and i plan on 10psi daily.
how did you get the stock pistons on the LS rods? that wasnt a possibility when i did mine.
LS rods are way bigger than d16 rods for those who doubt about there strength.

whats the worst situation that would come out of piston failure due to boost (realistically speaking). I still have my 9:1 JE/Crower setup that i can swap in. I just don't have the time to get them back in before school starts. I was planning on boosting 6-8psi and if a piston cracks or i get ring failure I could put the crower/JE's in.
