Default JDM type R gauge cluster question?

On the DC5R the speedometer onyl goes up to 180km while the the usdm type S goes to 160mph 180km is equal to like 115mph i think or something close to that and we all know that car can go alot fast than that. So what is the deal with them making the cluster not go to a higher speed?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just found it it odd how they did this and was wondering why they did it?

Not really a law about the speedo, more of a law about the governing of cars to only 180km/h. The new NSX-R is coming with a speedo of 300km/h top speed. The new GT-R R35(not yet released) will also come with a 300km/h speedo. The manufacturers do it, just because the legal top speed is 180km/h. Let me restate, the legal speed in Japan is 80km/h on the expressway, at least here on Okinawa, I think it is the same for mainland Japan, but I am not too sure. Yes most cars can do well beyond, but remember, there are many Kei cars here, little yellow plate 3 or 4 cylinder 660cc machines on the street. My girlfriend has a Subaru Pleo RS (DOHC Supercharged), I've gotten it up to it's limiter of 140km/h, and it still had more revs to go.
So I am thinking Japan has this in between speed set. I'm sure my Integra if wound at in 6th will get up to 260km/h or about 161mph. Just found out which wire I needed to hook up on my Rev/Speed meter to bypass the speed limiter and I'll see what it can do. The highest I've gone is 183 hitting the limiter in sixth at like 5500rpms. Highest rev to date is 8784.

From what I understand through people who've done the engine swap here, the JDM K20A-R won't exceed 110MPH because of the ECU.

Damn, you probably couldn't max out 4th gear without hitting the govenor.

Hi,

Looking for 250$ USD for the cluster. As far as I know it is plug and play. Don't know how many km on it but dealer can reset it as they have service bulletin on how to do it to USDM clusters so should be able to set it to what what your car has . I would suspect it ask less than 10k kilometers on it.

Thanks,
