Default When Going In Reverse...Where's Your Clutch Pedal?

For all my manual driving life, I've found that most of the time, the speed I'm going when in reverse make it's hard to fully release the clutch without causing a scene. Am I the only one that has a problem with this?

Basically, when going in reverse for a short period of time (i.e. backing out of a parking space), do you find yourself riding the clutch because you're not going fast enough to release the clutch w/o jerking the car?

Yes - I rarely let the clutch all the way out when backing up...

ya majority of the time I dont release the clutch all the way because id be going to fast for the distance I need to back out from. So I guess you can call it "riding" the clutch.

You can do it... but VERY slowly and carefully. Usually after backing up slowly for a while I can release the clutch very smoothly.

Otherwise it is embarassing and causes a scene

I would think most people ride the clutch when backing up...if they don't you would be jerking like a **** or going to fast...

I dont know what you actually mean by riding the clutch. When starting the car in first or in neutral i simply have to release the clutch pedal very slowly and it gets the car going without needing to feather the throttle at all, obviously when driving in the city i need to feather it a little more just so drivers behind me dont honk because i'm starting up too slow

I briefly "ride" the clutch and then slap it in neutral. I just use the reverse gear to get going, then coast out (unless I'm in a busy parking lot where I'd prefer to keep the reverse lamps lit).

Practise in a lot far away from people and small animals. I don't want to hear about you hurting anyone from reversing ways. LOL

Gradually ease off your clutch just as if you were clutching to go into first gear. The release should be smooth as butta.

i push the clutch in, put it in reverse, then slowly let the clutch out as if i was starting slowly in first. after i start to move a little bit, i push the clutch back in (so im therefore in neutral) and roll back. if i need to roll farther, i will repeat the process. i never let the clutch all the way out when reversing (but i also never reverse for long distances), nor do i constantly hold the clutch halfway engaged. i just coast in neutral.

I always let the clutch all the way out when coming out of the driveway. I must be the masta reverse driva.

I don't know, I guess I just have the technique. I only leave it fully out for a second or 2 because you start moving quick. I then just plop it into neutral and coast, unless it is dark and I need the reverse light.

Since we're on the topic of reverse, this has come up from time to time, but I'll ask anyways, anyone got a video of VTEC engaging in reverse?
