Default Power to Manual Steering

ok, everyone on ht has great ideas on how to achieve manual steering.
(1) swap the steering rack for a manual one.
(2) loop the fluid lines on a power rack. (thanks spade)

well im lazy and i just want to disconnect the belt from the ps pump. how is this going to affect the system? i want to be able to reconnect it back if i want. will this cause any problems in the future?

thanks in advance

A lot of CSi people do this. (I hear laughter and see smirks. ) I heard this can cause extra strain on the PS rack, though. Don't know if it's true or not because I've never done it myself. However, a guy I know with a B20 del Sol runs without the belt, and it seems okay. I think he's been driving this way for a couple of years now.

thanks ppl

i took the ps belt off last night and my first impression is veary good. the cars handling feels like night and day, stability at high speeds is greatly improved.

so does anyone else have any thoughts on the subject? im basicly looking for any adverse affects this might cause.

I have heard it can cause problems to the rack overtime as well. I would say, if you get some money to save up for parts, you should do the loop/breather system. It may be a pain in the ***, but in the end it will be easier to turn that it is presently, plus you will have the benefit of the removed weight of the pump, resevoir, and lines.

I'd say skip the manual rack and loop it. but you can probobly leave it as is if it doesn't bother you... and like mentioned... if it goes bad a manual can be had for 50 bucks and maybe if quaife actually ever comes through there may be a fast ratio manual rack from them for under 200.

i just ditch power steering on my 93 si. best move i ever made.

i swapped in a manual rack and put on new tie rod end while i was at it.

great swap. car feel so much better, and the less strain made my idle better, motor also revs quicker.
