CRX feels very loose
Hi guys i have a question in regards to my steering issues. I have a 91 Si with H&r spring tokico Iluminas, ST sway bars Frnt/Rear and as well as rear lwr tie bar and upper frnt/rear strut bars, My tire wheel comb is Miata wheels on falken azenis 195/50/14 Well car feel s really loose and steering seems to have a lots of jerk to it even though car does not have lots of pwr (B16A) i know i have a aligment problem for sure, could it be that side walls of the tires are big and i have to go with 45 series tire, Maybe steering rack is bad??? I just want to have little bit stirdy feel to the steering? Maybe i'm just talking out of my *** but it does feel right! Thanks for ur help!

Fix that first.
Fix that first.
What are you considering "feeling loose"?
We all have different opinions on what loose means. To me that is when the *** steps out and slows the car down, like a big *** drift. To others it means the *** end comes around with the front very easily and more controlled.

I agree-get the 4-wheel alignment done. You may need Camber Kits if the alignment is really far out of spec. I am assuming this is a street/autocross car. Another thing-I am unaware that Falken has an Azenis in 195-50R14. I have this tire in a 60 series and they are fine on track. If you are using a different tire that can also be part of what you are feeling. I have no idea what the specs for the wheels are-so think about that too. Everything will depend on the alignment-event he engine swap and possibly the sway bars.
Can you better describe what the car is doing while it is cornering? That would be a help.

I would thoroughly inspect the car first. Which I'm sure everyone is assuming you have done this already. If you have bushings that are worn this could make your car feel loose as well, and if you happen to catch this after you get your alignment done then you will just have to go and get another alignment done after you take your suspension apart to replace the bushing. So if you can just save yourself some time and money and do a thorough inspection of your suspension components and torque your nuts & bolts. Also, check your tie rod ends and CV boots.
After all the work is done then go get your alignment.

I could be wrong, but I think he meant to type 195/60/14. I just bought a set and was hoping to find a 195/55 series, but no. They seem to only come in one size for 14"ers. FWIW.

Thanks a bunch guys i am going to do 4 wheel aligment first and see what happens keep u posted. (speaking of bushings, i'm using energy all around but that only made the car feel stiffer over the rough pavement.
Thanks again i'll keep u posted!

Some of us subscribe to the partial ES bushing kit install. The front of my CRX is stock and the rear has ES where needed. In any case the springs, shocks and bushings combine to stiffen the car a great deal.

Back from the dead topic !
Can an alignement make the car a bit scary ? I just installed front and rear brakes conversions, plenty of bushings (upper/lower balljoint, compensator arms, all from the dealer) and well as new coilovers....the car feels scary. It will be aligned, corner-weighted and re-aligned...but I was just wondering on how bad can an alignement make the car feel ? When rolling forward, it feels like the rear end is going left and right....btw every bolts has been cheked over and over.
Also...I finally understand when people are talking of a "loose" feeling behind the wheel
Thanks for helping me figuring that out !

If you have rear toe out, it can make it feel pretty bad. Did you check your rear control arm bushings? If those are breaking down, no alignment will help.

In a word, ABSOLUTELY!
It will also make the car feel very slow, get an alignment, it's like adding 50 whp

I believe that some Miata wheels will not fit on the hub correctly. The center bore is the right diameter but the wrong shaped camfer. Make sure that the wheels are really flat against the hubs.

Just got home from the alignment. Wow ! Had 25/32 on rear right wheel
Toe has been zeroed, and the camber looks great and pretty much even LF/RF (-1.80/-1.68) LR/RR (-1.09/-0.93)
The car feels great, finally...
