Im wanting to cut out some of my front crossmember so that i can fit my turbo in there. Its a 90 CRX with an LS swap using HASport mounts. I need to take off some of the top...not the sides like you do when trying to fit a header in there. Im wanting to cut out a spot about 6-8 inches long and 3-4 inches wide. Do you think thats safe? It wont be driven like this for very long...maybe a month at the most. And please dont tell me to buy an aftermarket one...if i had the money to do that i would...lol. Thanks

If you cut it up you will greatly reduce the strength of the front of your car. I suggest an aftermarket crossmember like Jim Fab.

Yea like i said if i had the money for one i would get it...but i dont right now. The only thing im worried about is it bending when im turning or if i hit a big bump. Im not worried about a front end collision at all. So will it hold up to regular everyday driving? Thanks

you said it will only be that way for about a month right? why? if it's because you will be able to afford the proper aftermarket one in a month, then wait the month...don't risk messing up yourself or your ride because of something like that...

Yes its because i dont have the money now...but i also dont have a car to get to work to make money. I need my car back on the road ASAP. So do you think it will handle daily driving like that?

How much did you cut off of your crossmember? Ive seen people who have cut alot more than im wanting to and they still drive it. They all say that it doesnt feel as stable but its still roadworthy. It seems like cutting off of the top wouldnt hurt performance as much as if you cut it off the side anyway. What if i welded a piece of metal on the bottom of the crossmember directly below the hole that im cutting...just to give it some extra strength? Do you think that will help at all? Thanks

I cut out a piece about 1X3 inches sideways. I'll see if I can snap a photo later today. I was thinking about welding a piece back on for reinforcement but didn't have a welder on hand. I'm just going to get the Jimfab crossmember. My friend has one and he highly recommends them.
i cut mine up a bit .i ended cutting 2 parallele slits about 3 inches apart and just denting that in to make to the downpipe fit. i have had it like that for about 7 months now with no ill effects yet and DC has alot of potholes
but i do plan on getting a after market one later on .

Man I had to carve up mine when I got a 4-1 header. it was about 5 inchs with a circular grinder from left to right. didn't hack all the way into the cross member just a section of the lip that I needed. The car was fine. Until I got nailed from behind by some drunk *******.

You say you need a car to drive to work, well you dont need the turbo in there, that way you wont have to hack your crossmember and then in a month when you can afford an aftermarket one drop the turbo in then. I wouldnt go chopping it up just to have a turbo a month early.

Ever thought maybe he's too far along now to switch back and convert to N/A set-up. I'm guessing if it was just that easy he would have already done that.
