Currently have a 91 Civic with 1st gen b16, YS1 trans w/ LSD, some random Jasma header, thermal 2.5, & K&N. Hoping to find a JRSC over the winter so when I make the move from local club to SCCA, I don't get run over by people with almost 100Gs into M3s and S4s. I typically don't do that well, as the car is always in some state of mistune or disrepair because I am broke. Hard to be smooth and consistent when you can't count on the setup of your car being anything like it was at the last event. But thankfully, almost every piece under the car has been replaced in the last 6 months, so hopefully I will get in at least one good event this season.
My buddy with a CRX that won our street tire SM class last year, switched to R compounds and now gets FTD or damn near at all of our events. He has a JDM GSR motor, 4-1 DC, Quaife, custom exhaust, Y1 trans and the car is put together perfectly. He has run one SCCA event in SM2 and beat up on a Vette. This was strictly at the local level though. We are all considering running as many SCCA events as we can next year, as he needs more competition
Oh, and I have another friend, that runs in my street tire street mod class with what would an underprepped for CSP carbed 86 CRX DX if it weren't for a couple of parts (like the carbs) He typically kicks everyones *** now that him and the aforementioned friend are not duking it out anymore. So you don't necessarily need the ubermotor, just a well put together, light car, with some torque, and a very good driver.
Working on the driver, and my broken chit,
Ken
