bad steering rack???
well i think my steering rack took a crap....I just installed my camber kit on my 90 hatch and had a alignment done...wheels don't camber anymore and everything is tight but when im driving on bumpy roads i hear a lot of popping and rattling coming from underneath the car..I can feel it from both the drivers and passenger side...I was playing around w/ the car to try and find out what the noise was and discovered that when i hit the brakes both front wheels shake as if they were loose..and this is only from a slow roll..I'd let the car roll a little and hit the brakes..sounds and feels like sh|t...any of you guys experience this problem before? I'm sure its the rack, but any info. is appreciated.
if its your rack, i just changed mine a coupl eof days ago so if you get into any problems changing it, let me know, since its still fresh in my mind. also, i did a write-up on it here a few days ago too, https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=572765
do you notice a lot of play in the steering wheel?

yeah I do notice alot of play in the steering wheel..clonk clonk...I also hear a pop like some kind of joint sometimes when i turn..especially when I brake..I just replaced both upper ball joints and axles are good...could it be the tie rod? something feels really loose when i go over bumps...is it the steering rack??
i also have similar probs..whenever i go over bumps etc in the road the steering pulls all over the place and just feels like something is loose. Ive owned another crx before and that was just lowered on stock shocks but handled beautifully... this one has konis new front sway bar.. i dunno wot it is. any ideas? sorry to hijack ya thread man but just seems we have similar probs..
How are your lower ball joints and your wheel bearings? Check them for excessive wear and play.
Since you replaced the other stuff already. Rule out the small things before you shell out 237.14 for a new rack. I just went through this with my rex. I ended up replacing tie-rod ends, ball joints, wheel bearings and the rack. Steering is tight now, and I have the piece of mind knowing that my front end is up to par, and I won't have any more headaches from it. (I hope

Be sure to check the two main mounts for the rack i have seen three racks that people were about to replace because they thought they were bad. I was able to tighten the main strap mponuts and the problem dissapeared. Look before you but unless you have unlimited funds.

I just looked at my passenger side axle and my cv boot is ripped in half...I dont know how it ripped or if anything else caused it to rip...it was fine just a few days ago when i put in my camber kit and had the alignment done...pisses me off because im away at school and dont have access to a jack so that i can take a look under car...I wonder if thats what all the clonking is although i never had a problem w/ clonking from a ripped boot in the past? doesn't sound like the axles are making all that noise...ill see once i get the car up on jackstands... and yes both upper and lower ball joints were replaced on both sides...
Look for any cracks also. I found this a while back while doing an oil change. I'm going to change everything out at the same time just so I don't have to play the guessing game as some people have.

Correct there are four bolts holding up the rack.
Also if your cv joint is ruined you will get a bit of noise from it. Replace the axle and see what happens, it has te be replaced anyways. Then at least you'll have that ruled out.
