Default help I am running rich

Ok and I own and 87 1500s (CDN model of SI), it is carbed and other night I was driving, and I turn off the car (key to off) but the motor is still running,(but struggling) I turn the key back to ON and the engine roar to life I turn it off a second time but after a few second of "stuttering" it turn off. Then I try a leave bit later and the car's idle is all weird, I pull the choke to start(as usually) but the engine reved to 5k(not touching the throttle at this point), but if I turn the choke off the engine died, I have to drive the car with the choke open adn foot on the gaz. Last night I Had to drive home from montreal to my parent house (hightway drive bout 1hour 1/2), the car was runing a "bit" better but my friend escorted me a short part of the way said that when I lifted the throttle flames would shout out my tail pipe! what can I do I think the full mix is too rich, I know very little about carburators

check your vacuum lines. sounds like you have a leak. most likely running rich isnt your problem. your car will run rich if you drive with the choke on and you probably needed some extra fuel to counteract the extra air comming in from the vacuum leak. get some starting fluid and spary around all ur vacuum lines with the car idling. if the idle raises then u found your leak.
