You can do that time with any motor, But the mods are what is going to make it happen along with proper tuning. Search around and see what people have done to their cars and make a judgement of what performance route you want to go and how much money you have to spend.
whatever. a b16 wil require SOME skill even with boltons to run 14.9 a b18c will not
u are guarranteed a 14.9 in a b18c and should probably hit closer to 14.1

well, if you have a shitty driver, no times are guarranteed

i ran a 15 flat on bald tires and a crappy napa oem style clutch that kept slipping.. im sure boltons will get him there if he can drive. sure a b18c1 would guarantee it, but it would also guarantee a hole in his wallet

It shouldn't take much. You can do it with the stock engine. I remember a couple years ago somebody on resource.crx.org ran a 15 (or 16, it was like .5 sec faster than car & driver did it) flat on a bone stock CRX Si. I think it was Composimo, but i am not sure.

If I had a chance to do it all over again I would do a B18C. I have a B16A in my 91 hatch and it can get down to 14.9 if you know what you're doing. But if you have a choice to go B18 and B16 I would have to go with the bigger brother.
I'm with you HOME SKILLET, just read my sig. It is very possible though to run high 14's with a b16a and bolt ons. Even though I don't drag race its still has the potential to bust a high 14 at least with a decent driver behind the wheel.

Money is no substitute for knowing how to drive
Seriously. I watch people dump tons of cash into their cars, and when they bring it to the track, awww, look at the widdle ricers, they get smoked by Ford Escorts because they don't know how to handle the power.
The time in my sig was run with a stock B16A, stock timing, 92 octane gas, both seats, stripped rear interior + sound deadening, full dash, roof, sunroof, doorpanels, power door locks, power hatch, stock hood, stock crossmember, AEM CAI, Flowmaster custom 2 1/4" crush-bent exhaust, high-flow 2" cat, B&M FPR (set to stock 38psi pressure), Royal Purple 5W30 oil, Motomaster Predator 195/60R14 all-season tires at stock tire pressure (32psi), ACT HD clutch and lightened stock flywheel, with an S1 transmission. The time was run at sea level. That's it, no more mods to speak of. The car is daily-driven, right now, 1000 km's a week roughly in exactly the same trim as just stated - except I've just finished an Integra DA big brake conversion so it should be a little slower. It gets 400+ km's per tank.
B16A will get you those times and then some. It's not hard, it just takes practice.

If you can't run a 14.9 with a b16, you have a weak motor or you suck at driving. Bang for your buck, depending on what your future plans are, the b18c5 is still the best. If you just want to run a 14.9 and be done with it, get a b16, and don't waste your money on anything else.
it all depends on what you want. i have a first gen b16a with smashed dc header, aem cold air, and str cam gears. thats its everything else is bone stock. and went 14.06 at 97.99mph at a shitty track here in portland. and thats in a 88 crx si that weighs in at 2250lbs.

I did it the first time I ran. Not tryin to hate on anybody, but if you can't run at least 14.9 or better in a b16 crx, you really need to either A: take a hard look at your swap to see if it was done correctly, B: replace your tires(they most likely have stell belts showing), or C: learn how to drive, because it's NOT a hard goal to reach.

i ran a 14.9 in my 89 CRX with Z6, I/H/E, b16a TB, and HX wheels w/street tires, so i say its possible with a good driver and a light car. BTW mines not stripped with exception to sound deadening.
