NEED ADVICE: have bent valves, should i repair old head/get a new head(b18c5/pyr/gude)
I REALLY need some good advice on what i should do to repair my gsr. From a mis-shift, the engine revved extremely high, i'm sure there was valve float/i have bent valves since i've done this before. Anyways, the other time the car was under warranty, Acura replaced the entire head. I talked to a honda service guy, and a guy and a local speed shop, and they both said i had two options: either repair the head (requires the car to go to a machine shop) or get a new head, both choices they said cost about the same ($1000-$1500).
What should i do? If i'm spendin this much money on this repair, i definately want to get some performance out of it. What i want to know is what is the cheapest/easiest solution to fix bent valves, and if it cost the same to repair as gettin a new head, should i either try and get a b18c5 or send my old damaged head in as a core to gude or pyr and get one of their head packages? If anyone is nice enough to answer my questions, could you also tell me exact/or estimate prices? Thanks.

go to http://www.ferrea.com and order some oversized pro-flow valves. get some good valve springs and retainers and take it all to a good machine shop and have them cut the valves seat for the new valves and port the intake and exhaust ports to accomodate the oversized valves. probably will cost a bit of money buy not 1500...........
Time for Toda valves and springs, perhaps? I'd get these, and then get a new head.
Btw, how did you manage to twice miss shifts so much that you revved the engine past 8k rpms? The ITR tranny (I'm assuming that's what you have with your c5) shifts beautifully.

Yup, you need to watch that concentration and driving since it happen twice. I'll hire a driving instructor and learn how to drive a manual properly.
But to answer your question, I get a new head. Even though a machine shop can repair it, why not just get a new head since they are both somewhat similar in price. Better new then repair.
