HELP- What if speedometer and transmission stop working correctly at the same time? (95ex)
I used to have a 94 coupe which i loved so much that i totaled it on a highway exit ramp :-(.
i liked my old car so much that i recently bought (5 days ago) a 95 ex 2dr auto., which i love as well, but i am having a few problems, that seem to have started at the same time, last night.
1. the speedometer stays at zero no matter how fast im going. i turned the car off and then on again and the needle started bouncing up and down a little bit, but then fell back to zero and stayed there.
2. The transmission changes gears early or late sometimes, i THINK as a result of the speedometer not working...also on the display in the dash, the D4 light is blinking, even when i switch to D3.
3. If i drive it for more than an hour since this happened, the 'check engine' light comes on in the dash...but the engines LOOKS and SOUNDS perfectly fine...i really dont think there is an engine problem, just that the transmission is working strangely.
The car does need a new master cylinder for the brakes, which i had to order from the auto parts store...i dont think that this is causing the problems though. i could be wrong...anyways, i would GREATLY appreciate if someone could help me out, thanks.

sound like you need a new vehicle speed sensor, check what code the check engine light is throwing and i'm sure it'll say the same thing. when mine went out the speedo stopped working and shifting was a little wierd sometimes.
yea thanks alot that was my original assumption i just wanted some opinions before i go fixing something that doesnt need to be fixed, lol that would be annoying...
oh one more question about the speed sensor though, does anyone know where on the car it is located, i was trying to follow the wiring up in the wheel whell areas where i would presume that it is but i couldnt find it. oh and also, to get a new one, is that an auto parts thing or do would i probably have to go to the manufacturer?
the part you need to replace is the mechanical unit located on the top of the transaxle.
according to the haynes manual. the VSS is on back of the transaxle you have to raise up the front of the car to change it.

My speedometer comes in and out as it pleases but I never get a check engine light. So I had took the car to a shop and they said nothing was wrong with the sensor. So now I don't know if I should change the sensor or the speedometer itself because most of the time the speedometer would work. Just every once in a while it conks out.
