How much do you want to spend. There are cheap swaps like the D16A6 or ZC. Then more expensive like B18As. Then even more expensive would be the B16s, or even B18s. All depends on how much performance you want and what you want to spend.

Yeah your going to have to decide on pretty much 2 things first like he said how much money you want to spend on it and two what are your goals for it?? Do you want to Auto-X? Do you want to just take it to the strip?? There are planty of options out there you just have to decide what you want before you decide on a motor.

well a motor that would just drop in...the sohc vtec D16z6 (92-95 civic) or even better D16Y8 96-00 (has slightly better combustion chamber @127hp) dont need to change motor mounts... just activate the vtec & it beats the b16 until like 3rd gear... roughly $1000-1200 for swap? then there is the Mini-Me... single cam vtec head will fit on your dx block... can use same tranny, its on archives in here somewhere... search?

The simplest and cheapest swap would be a d16a6, but for the same hassle and a hundred or 2 more you could get a dohc zc. The a6 is rated around 108hp and 100trq, the zc is 130hp and 108trq. For any swap you will need to convert to MPFI so search around, theres tons on it. fouthgenhatch who posted earlier has a great how-to on his site. I did my swap by myself and having never even watched a motor being swapped and came out perfect. Read a lot up on it, grab a helms manual http://www.helminc.com and get the right tools and it'll be cake.

That sounds like a good idea. I jsut searched bout the Mini-me swap and i still dont get it. I just want my EF to be faster than most civics and non-vtec integras. And thanks. More info would help.

"Type R all the way"....

I'd disagree. I would rather spend money on getting a decent engine, and having some extra to build it up- or even turbo it. If he got a Type R, he'd be lucky if he still had a dime in his pocket. My personal opinion goes with the ZC. Get it, build it, maybe even turbocharge it...

sadly, the ZC dohc isnt CA smog legal...but the sohc vtec has pretty darn good tq & you can get a nice cam (zex) w/o breaking your wallet (zc cams from hks $)

hey guys, i'm in the same boat, except i've got a dx crx, i've got the awesome instructional that was posted earlier on the mpfi swap, and am planning on installing a d16a6, but now i 've heard that a dohc zc is jsut a little more spendy. does any one how much more the zc is than the d16, also will i need to get different mounts, and when i call the guy at the engine house what do i tell him i need, so i don't sound like dumb ***. seeing how i'm a little new at this engine stuff.

If it is gonna be your fun car....you already have a daily driver, do what you want to do. You can afford to spend alot of time and detail on it, and money..little by little. A turbo charged b18a would be bad ***, built for 20lbs of boost!!!!!!!!!! good suspension, drag radials, and custom drag launch crossmember would justabout do it. Have fun with the Crx..thats what they were designed for.!!!

SOHC

Its kind of a stubborn pride type thing, leaving you car SOHC and just showing up the DOHC's that think they're bad.
