Default Swap problems

I swapped in a B16A SiR 2 into a 1992 Civic VX HB and I don't know if I have a bad tranny or shift linkage or etc... Here is the problem: Whenever I put the car in gear I can move the shifter around and it feels like neutral even though it is in gear. I can drive the car, but it is causing me to miss shift a lot and makes 3rd gear grind almost ever time. Any ideas?

what did you use to connect the shift rod to the tranny? if you didn't use the right size spring pin (aka roll pin, tension pin), you'll have a lot of play in shifting. when i first did my manual swap, i didn't have the right size pin, so i used a clevis pin to hold it together. i had to pull the shifter so far over to each side for first, second, fifth and reverse that i couldn't even fit my hand between the shifter and the seats. it always moved side to side enough in gear that it seemed like neutral, and yeah, i had a hard time shifting, as well. if i'm not mistaken, it is supposed to be an 8 x 20mm pin and a c-clamp (kinda like the clamps that go around coolant lines) i ended up using a 5/16" x 1" and cutting it down to fit... (25/32" is the actual conversion) basically, put a cutting wheel on a drill and cut off a hair less than a 1/4". put the clamp on the shift rod first, push the pin through with a punch and hammer, then slide the clamp back down over the ends of the pin.

I just used the stock parts....I used the shift linkage the came from HMO and connected it right up....I will play with it today and hopefully figure it out. thanks! Ooh I could be wrong but I was thinking it might have to do with the bushings might be old and thats why it wobbles around like it is in neutral...as for grinding in 3rd gear is it possible that the synchros are bad? I might need to tighten the clutch too...Please give me feedback cause i might be wrong

checking the pedal adjustment is a good idea. also, bleed the hydraulic line if you haven't tried that yet. grinding usually means bad synchros, yes. if it is bad, it should be taken care of. either way, it should be taken care of before it gets bad enough to shatter...but realistically, it's kinda okay for now. did you get a warranty on the tranny? if so, tell them that they sold you a bad one. if not, and it is really bad, consider rebuilding or replacing.

another thing...maybe...check the bolt at the bottom of the shifter. see if it's loose. and double check the way you connected the linkage to the tranny.
