Problem splitting 4speed from 90 Civic
I am helping my brother fix the tranny in his car. He has a 90 civic with a 4 speed although we are unsure if the tranny is the original. The tranny is stuck in a gear but the shifter still moves. I think something on the shifter forks must have broke or come loose. We have managed to remove the tranny but we cannot get the case split. It only comes apart about 3/4" or so. Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone split one before with success?
Thanks

The transmission is stuck in gear because the shift fork most likely broke. Alum units are very fragile
As for splitting the case, since You have it 3/4 of the way up already, you need to open a 3/8 "SQUARE" bolt on the far end of the transmission where the drain plug are. It's brass in color. Open that, you'll see a backwards clip that is attached to a bearing, open the clip and slip the case off.

PS. to pull the gear clusters out. Look at the clutch housing and should see an 8mm allen bolt on the top right. You NEED to take that out to remove the gear clusters .
