Default Not passing CA SMOG due to Timing

I passed the sniffer but there is a problem with the timing. The car is said to have timing @ 1 Degree while the stock number is @ 20 degrees. Can anyone verify the stock number? What the heck is going on? How can the timing be at 1?

If anyone in socal has a timing gun, I am willing to pay to borrow it so I can verify this wack timing number.

The mechanic there said it could be many things (many I think is BS):
Timing belt off a tooth
Pulleys
ECU

I think the mechanic is full of it. Stock will hit you at about 16 to 20 degrees. if your timing was 14~19 degrees off then I would think your car would be runnig like shizzznit.

That's what I'm talking about!! How can the car run with only 1 degree of timing. Sounds like total BS.

I just bought the car so I need the whole package.

I passed the visual and the sniffer BUT the timing part it failed.

yeah should be at 16 degree....car won't stay on if it were at 1 degree......

Best thing you can do is advance it via the dizzy till it slightly pings then back it off a bit....should be near 16 degrees then.....stock honda ping at like 18 degrees..

I think that mechanic is trying to run you for some $ so he can fix your timing. Did you take it to some mechanic that does car repair AND smog? I NEVER EVER go to those places. I go to smog ONLY places. They do smog and THAT'S IT. They won't try to jack you and say "man, your muffler fluid is super old. You need to get it changed so you can pass smog. We can fix it for you for $20".
Fawwwwkkk that!

If anything, that mechanic is showing that your car is 1 degree off of stock. Maybe it's 15 or 17. As far as I know, to pass smog you don't have to be dead on 16 degrees, but you actually can be 2 degrees off... like 14 or 18.
