Default valve adjustment, now white smoke!

i adjusted my valves a couple of days ago and now i've noticed that i have white smoke coming out of the muffler. i just got a new muffler and piping too so i don't know if it was doing this before. didn't seem to do it when i had my stock muffler on. anyways, some smoke comes out during idle. not really noticeable but if i rev the engine you can notice it pretty well. not sure if you can see it while driving. do i need to re-adjust my valves again? im going on a road trip on sat morning and it's about 5hrs so i need to make sure it doesn't die on me!!! oh yea, i haven't got new valve cover gasket or o ring yet but for sure getting that ASAP!! 92 si 85k

Are you sure it's white and not light blue? White smoke means that you have water/coolant in your exhaust. Is this smoke there only when you first start the car up when the engine is cold? Or is it all the time? Have you checked your coolant level? You might have a blown head gasket.

ok, now it's not really noticeable. i don't really see it much when it's warmed up. but problem is there is oil leaking somewhere. it's not really bad though. hardly notice it. should i be concern about that? i am going on a road trip . about 5hrs to destination. if i do have a blown head gasket do i need to replace it ASAP or before i go on the trip? i adjusted my valves myself. i can tell the 4th cyl is a tiny bit off but im pretty sure the rest of the cyl. should be correctly tuned.

Synthetic will burn white. So you rechecked your valve lash? Was it too tight or too loose?

ADJ. the valves will only affect the valve seals. A good way to check the valve seals is to approach the redline in 2nd or 3rd gear whil someone is tailing you. Let off the gas and coast while you are in gear. This puts alot of vacuum on the seals.

Awsome. I haven't had a chance to do a leak down yet... comp test came up fine. I seem to blow more smoke when it VTEC *or* after heel-toeing to a stop light. I've been wondering if it wasn't the seals themselves....

So they can see if you are blowing smoke.

talked to my mechanic today cause i am having the same problem. i am getting white smoke out the exhaust, just smells like exhaust though, not antifreeze/coolant. We opened my hood and first thing he said was damn this car needs a valve adjustment, he said this can definetely make a car smoke . i was worried also about a blown head gasket.

I wouldnt go on that road trip until I'd tested the leadown if I was you. Sounds like a HG problem that is unrelated to your valve lash adjustment.

Also a compression check could be perfect, straigh whatever pressures across the board but you could still have a HG blowing between coolant into oil. get leakdown asap. Also check coolant levels

thats right, working on my honda aint ****, he's got three cars in his shop right now...2004 porchse 911 turbo...turbo upgrade and chip install, Supercharging an M5, and some Boost work on a 02 Audi TT.
basic maintenance aint really a problem when you have a confident and competant mechanic at your side.

2000 civic SI b18c5, portflow head, Toda B cams, full race head job..Ferrea..blah blah, the works. stock bottom end. 11./1 cr

White smoke and smelling like gas...in my case ended up being a faulty fuel pressure regulator. there was nothing regulating the fuel flow so the injectors were overloading the chambers with fuel...fouling out my plugs.
just changed the oil cause the oil smelled like gas rowdy. The gas found its way through the rings and found its way in the oil. The exhaust smelled bad like running real rich but not black smoke, just throwing water and a burning oil smell through the exhaust. Anyway, problem solved for now..

IF I find more gas in the oil then its definetely a stuck open injector or a faulty one at least.

changed the fuel filter, changed PCV( smelled like gas), o2 sensor, oil..filter( cheap wal-mart Super-Tech{made by quaker state}),....Wires are definetely next.
the car is like BARELY even smoking at all. power is restored. and all seems good ..so far.

I will change the oil to some good stuff in 1000 miles, i just didnt want to put in some good stuff and find out theres more gas in the oil. i'll let you all know of anything else...
there werent any other post of this kind of situation going on so it would be good to post this..in case anyone else has the same problem. i searched and didnt find anything on the gas in oil subject and how it was solved.
could of been faulty injectors, bad FPR, bad ECU...lastly faulty igntion

OK oil is really starting to smell like gas again...not sure if its from the gas that was in there before, or it is still dumping fuel.

My MAP may be fried due to my Fields Vtec controller probably frying it.
i will switch MAP sensors soon...if not...its the f--kin' injectors

This prolly doesnt mean anything to you but when i first put my full exhaust on, it smoked a little bit for an hr or two.

1meanB18c5civic, is there any good shops in San Antonio? austin isnt to big on the import scene as far as I know, and I havnt seen any performance stores or dynos around town. Was wondering if San Antonio has anything to offer, only 50 min drive.
