White Smoke Sometimes at Startup

White Smoke Sometimes at Startup
Hi all, fairly new here. And newer to Honda's, primarily an air-cooled VW/Porsche guy but have a 92 Civic VX for a daily commuter. Been having an issue lately where it will sometimes burn white smoke from the exhaust when first starting. It's not like your standard condensation smoke where it's just a little trail of it that evaporates, but it will billow out white smoke for a little while that will linger and hang in the air.
I've done a little research but a lot of issues seemed to occur randomly when driving or constantly, but still my first guess is head gasket? What kind of things can I check to troubleshoot this better? So far it has only happened when starting the car in the morning before going to work.
Thanks for the help!
Sincerely,
That new guy

It really depends on what it smells like. If it smells sweet I'd say head gasket or if it smells like oil most likely valve stem seals.

This sounds like the valve seals, when the engine sits oil passes through the valve seals and collects on the piston and when you start it the engine burns out the oil till its out.
Could be a leaking head gasket but what you need to do is perform a leak down test as well as a compression test to see if you have a leak.
