Default B20 vtec question

whats the best head to use in a b20 vtec conversion and why. b16a or b18c5

the b16a because it flows more air than the b18c5. If you ported both of them the b16a would still flow more.

stock for stock..the C5 head will be the better out of the two. due to its more aggressive cams and better flowing head. but if start to do machine work to either of the heads, it really wont matter as much which head you start with.

Technically, the B16 and the B18C5 (type-r) head are of the same cast so a B16 should flow the same as a B18C5.

But, with the B18C1 you got your dual stage intake.

I went with a B16 because it was cheap and my intake would line up and i wouldn't have to worry about the dual stage manifold

i tihnk you got it mixed up with the b18c1...

c5 and a1 are same friggin head....the c5 is just ported..... theyd both flow the same if they were ported the same....

cams/retainers/springs are a different thing though

the ideal head to start with is not a b18c5 head for a good port job, a b16a head is.

the b18c5 head is much better stock, better cams springs and ported from factory but if your gonna build one up then a b16 is better.

all of them will fit
but the b18c5 you are already ahead of the b16a
but the b18c1 has the dual runner manifold
so its just up to your taste
I vote for 18c5
