Default better ram air idea for us Non-VTEC types

I'm getting a little comfused as to why i see so many people on this site creating CAI and ram air systems by busting out their headlights or bumper lights, isn't that illegal?
Yesterday i got inspired and built a ram air of my own without taking out any of my lights.
I took out the rest of my stock air box and resonator crap. Hooked some 3" dryer hose to the backside of the white inlet on the left side of the engine bay (where the stock air box sucked its air from).
Then i snaked the pipe down the finder, behind the bumper light, and placed the other end in the lower left corner of the grille.
Granted it doesn't cram the air direcly into the filter, it definitally flows cool air intot the entire engine bay.
Sure it looks pretty ghetto, having white dryer hose peeking out of the grille, but i plan on covering the grille shprtly with mesh to clean up the whole front end.
If anybody is having trouble pictureing this setup, i can get access to a digital camera adn post a few pics.

"dryer" hose is way to thin, the point is for cooler air to get to your filter. by the time the air gets through that thin hose, it will heat up. also cutting up your bumper lense isn't illegal as long as it still has a light that will work (turn signal, parking).

Im strugglin to see how the air would heat up so quickly in the hose, the hose never enters the engine bay. Who knows, maybe it does heat up, i guess the only way to tell would be to stick a thermocouple or thermometer in there and see.

if nothing else, it may help keep the engine bay a little cooler
