fmax turbo on 97 accord
hey all, i am new to this forum so bear with me. I have a 97 honda accord with the original engine. I have upgraded a few things on it. I have done most of the work on it so I am somewhat mechanically inclined. however, i am unclear how my turbo kit is to be installed. I bought an fmas turbo kit which utilizes a T3/T4 ceramic ball bearing turbo along with a turbonetics wastegate, bypass valve and so forth and so on. I am not sure where to hook up the oil feed line comming from the engine going to the turbo which allows adequate lubrication? If anyone has a clue please enlighten me. Also, if anyone has an FMAX turbo kit I would like to know how much horsepower you truly are getting. I would prefer someone who has done a dyno. Well, hopefully you guys can help. Thanks
you drill a hole in the oil pan.
you should have found a shop and went custom instead fmax. http://www.trickengineering.com

That site doesn't have much on their turbo kits. Most of the time its custom kits that go wrong.
If you have the time to invest in troubleshooting, go custom. Or if you are new to the turbo scene. From what I've been hearing get a kit for your first time, after that go custom. So you can get a feel for what's needed.
Besides he already bought the kit.
How much did you get the kit for? And where?

the idea is a good shop knows what they are doing and knows what you need, the fmax kit uses cheap parts except for the turbo and is overpriced. believe me take a look at their custom installs and you'll get an idea of what can be done. one of the partners has a daily driven 12s civic on street tires with just H22+turbo, no internal work. that says a lot.
generally where **** goes wrong is inproper install regardless if it's a name brand kit or custom kit and the use of crappy hardware.

KGAccord is right about the oil return line. You need to drill a hole in the oil pan.
He already bought the turbo. And when all is said and done custom will cost more for the install. I've researched this before. It may be a good shop that you know people from but for a person that is in the market it's rather skeptical if they don't have anything on their site on the components they use.
Labor is always what kills on the bill..
Besides, he already bought the kit
I think FMAX was a good choice for something reliable and proven to work w/ minimal modification.

you donty tap the oil feed line from the oil pan... thats for the return line...
you get the feed from the back above the oil filter i think... or was it below...
cant rememver, but its somewhere around the oil filter.

^yes since he already has the kit he's best with that. i guess the idea is to research and check out shops and racetracks to see what everyone has to find out what's good. a stage 1 kit for $2,000 + install doesn't seem bad when you consider fmax kist are in the $3,000 range alone and a stage 1 kit should be comparable to a fmax or drag kit. finding out what that shop will use it's kit is just an e-mail or phone call away too, which is something that alot of people seem to forget nowawdays.

I bought the kit for $3300. I figure since this is my first time in experimenting with my accord for power I thought I would go with an already made kit to see how turbo actually works and to get a feel for it. I plan on doing an engine swap. I will be getting an H22a Euro R engine and will be installing a custom made turbo kit. I am currently installing the turbo kit I purchased and found out that I was missing some pieces from it cuz when I recieved the box it was all torn apart. The company told me to just keep what I have and call them and let them know what is missing and they will overnight it to me for no charge. Turbonetics has been pretty kewl with me so far. I looked above my oil filter and still don't see where the darn oil feed line goes. I called the company and they told me it hooks up to the oil pump sending unit but I can't find it anywhere. I have a chiltons but it isn't helping. I was hoping someone online has an fmax turbo kit and could help me out in where they have their oil feed line hooked up to and where the hell is this oil pump sending unit?

if your gonna be boosting anyway i would just get a h22a and maybe just the type r tranny if you have the money, why spend an extra $1500 when the added boost you could get out of the lower compression h22a would more than compensate for the extra 20hp of the type r engine? i would only get a type r engine if i planned on staying n/a and had money growing out of my butt cheeks.
since you plan on swapping the engine out anyway, boost the **** out that f22 and let us know how it turns out.

Just to give you guys an update. I found my oil pump sending unit. My turbo kit is now installed and I am very impressed with the outcome. The turbo kicks in between 3 to 4000 rpm and it hits hard. I am pretty happy with what i have done. I have learned quite a bit on installing a turbo kit on my accord and just working on it so if anyone has an questions feel free to ask me. I am no expert but I can pretty much tell you what you need to do and how to do it. Oh yeah, I am having a problem with the cooling of my engine. I am trying to figure it out. I checked my thermo stat and it is good. I have adequete coolant. I am not leaking any coolant into my engine. I am just thinking that I need a higher rating temp sensor and all will be well. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
How'd you end up tapping the oil pan and oil pump sending unit? Were those the only tricky parts when installing the kit?
Got any pictures of the install? Still trying to decide whether turbo or h22a. I think since I'm in Cali, I'm forced for h22a specifically for smog reasons. Hard to find people to smog now.
From what I hear/reading H22a is smog compliant. But still may add turbo later.
