Default Update on oily spark plugs.

Yesterday when I changed my plugs they were drenched in oil, on the bottom, burnt part. I dipped the new plugs in the socket and removed them without starting and they got oil on them as well. I then drove the car for about 10-15 minutes checked the plugs and three were completely dry, and one had very little oil on it. Not sure if it was from the previous mishap or if still getting oil on it. I will continue to monitor the plugs. But I am starting to think all is well, and it was just some blowby.

Like I said before, the car runs great, it should it only has 6K miles on it

No smoke or smell.

If it still has that little bit of oil tomorrow, I will do a compression check.

Any thoughts, please share, as I am just a novice mechanic.

Try replacing the sparkplug grommets or possibly you have bad valve seals or rings? Is your car smoking or burning oil?

My Spark plugs on my R oiled up as well. I did a 360 in an autox event and stalled the car. Afterward, it started running like crap and could barely idle. I went home, pulled the plugs, and found them covered with oil. I cleaned out the plugholes, threads and everything that I could, bought some new plugs and haven't had any problems since.

I am wondering if it is from the Fuel Injecter Cleaner I used...has anyone ever heard of that...oily residue on the plugs from an FI cleaner.

Car runs great...no smoking what so ever

Why are you using FI cleaner? There is no way your fuel system should require that. The chemicals in those cleaners tend to break down vital parts in their efforts to clean out residue.

Some idiot at the dealer told me to use it every 5K miles, so I did...and now I am wondering if that is what let that oily residue on my plugs

Hmmm,

Actually, if you use additives, it very well CAN show up on your plugs. In the site I used to read my plugs, that was one of the pics. It makes them brown/black with a coating on the plugs...

Maybe that's all it was?

Anyway, just keep an eye on it.

Good luck,
