boosting b18b obd2
ok my budy wants me to look and see what i can find out about boosting his motor ..........seeing he doesnt even know how a turbo makes power .....he wants me to do the install ..............i dont know much about these cars im new to the honda scene.........but i am a looonnngggg time DSM driver ever since 96' ........so i know my way around a turbo engine compartment ...............we have come to a decision that we want to run 7-9 psi .........nothing fancy in my book ??? am i correct in assuming that 7-9 psi is safe on stock fuel system and internals?if so we want to go with a t-25 mitsu turbo then restrict the boost to 8 psi ..........after later upgrades then turn it up to 13-15 psi !!!!!! all this and it spools at 2700 rpms doesnt get much better than that ??????and last of alll how tough is it gonna be to find the correct exhaust many to mend these two together(turbo/engine)????????or will i have to have it fabricated????
A t25 will work fine on a 1.8 teg engine at VERY low boost (3-5psi), but our volumetric efficiency is higher than that of a DSM so A T25 will fall flat on its face above 5k for running more than 5lbs. A 14b or 16g is what i would call the minimum to run 7lbs. The cost of a 14b isn't much more than a T25 as you would know but really the best turbo to get is a T3/T4 hybrid.. oh, if you're doing a turbo setup for a friend of yours.. do some research on a device called Hondata, the only way to go for fuel management.
As for stock fuel system on a honda under forced induction. No way. You at LEAST need a FPR and those things aren't all that great. You'll probably need 450cc DSM injectors, a 255lph fuel pump.. boosting a honda is not cheap.

i wouldnt run any boost on a stock fuel system. it really depends on how you set it up though. if he wants to spend a little money, as far as the fuel system for 7-9psi i say get a 255 liter/hr walbro, some 440 injectors, maybe a fuel rail, and Hondata. you dont see very many turbo hondas that run good on stock or chipped ecus. Hondata would not only get some good power out of the motor, but it would make reliable power as well.
the white hatch on my website below has pretty much the same setup as i just described and he runs a straight T3 boosting 8psi on a B20Z. hes got a Drag manifold, its pretty nice... ill see if i can find some pics to post.

hehe, ltho1998 posted while i was typing... and hes right about Hondata. its probably the cheapest and easiest type of engine management.

On a honda the fuel setup is typically
1. inline fuel pump / FMU / stock injectors
2. inline fuel pump / FMU / upgraded injectors
3. Walbro 255lph intank fuel pump / DSM 450cc's / OBD1 injector clips + Resistor Box
4. Walbro 255lph intank fuel pump / RC 440/550cc's
Fuel management ususally done with
1. VAFC/SAFC ~ piggyback
2. AEM EMS / Hondata / PFC ~ standalones
3. Autronic/Motec....blah blah blah ~ unless you wanna race
Stock ignition will do with one step colder plugs. DO NOT! go the fmu route...rather get the Walbro intank/RC 550cc's. Hondata will be nearly the same price as the standalones after the boost option and OBD1 conversion. If I remember correctly you DSM fellas have a fuel cutoff point when your ecu reads some readings correct? well honda doesn't and if you try to tune like the DSM's on the street you'll blow your motor. Get yourself an onboard WIDEBAND o2 meter....like the FJO meters. None of the Autometer disco light bullcrap. with hondata and the standalones you won't need a missing link...but with the Hack solutions you will....so remember to get the missing link or you'll blow your rings. the AFC Hack you can probably go to 10lbs before your car freaks....I've read that there is hesitation issues with this setup....DO YOUR FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM RIGHT THE FIRST TIME....DON'T GO CHEAP!!!!!!
go to the FI forum and search. Custom setups are the rage...and you'll get alot of quality parts if you ask around. Arturbo, ninesecrx, Flamenco-T.....these guys can hook you up with InlinePro Manifolds & Precision turbos / PWR intercoolers / oil feed & return kits.....good luck and TUNE TUNE TUNE.....or you'll go BOOM BOOM BOOM
