Default high pitch rice noise after header install.. ?? why?

Alright, so i use to have a stock header this morning in my 91 CRX HF (DOHC ZC), it sounded nice, low rumble, no ricey buzz sound, well i put in my new headers, finished everything up and went for a test drive. IM a little more than pissed off now that my car has lost the low rumble, and has a humming buzzing sound to it now. Is there anyways to get rid of this, its really starting to get to me Any suggestions would be great, i was hoping the header to make the rumble sound a little deeper, but no.. had to do what i didnt want it to

what kind of exhaust are you running? do you have a hi flo cat? I noticed a different tone when I installed my header, but when I added the hi flo cat it made my car sound raspy.

yea, it kinda sounds raspy =[ .. hmm i really dunno how to tell if i have a hi flo cat, and the exhaust that came on my car, well im not sure what kind it is, its pretty nice, was never this nasty loud before =[ hmm...

the way i can eplain the exhaust is like this..

It goes from the header, to the "down pipe" thing, then there is just one huge straight pipe all the way down the car, then its like the large muffler type part (sorta like oval-square shaped) then there is anothe bend tube going to the tip..

It sounds like you have no cat, adding a resonator may help.

Who do they get like this? So what does the resonator need to be added too? and how much will it run me?

i think your problem is you installed headers. usually that extra header will make your car sound ricey. maybe you should uninstall one.

well theres gotta be a way to get a nice deeper tone. I know people who have headers who dont have a raspy sound to their exhaust.

A resonator is just a straight through muffler that is installed after the cat and before the muffler to quiet the exhaust down. It doesn't restrict flow (not noticeably to any person), and can give your exhaust a nice sound. Every nice sounding system will have one, even the $500 after-market exhaust systems. Any muffler shop should be able to install one for you for $40 or less, in about 30 minutes or less.

thats weird, i should have one then because i do have an aftermarket exhaust.. hmm, so do you think just cause I installed the headers, it created more flow, therefore making a more raspy sound, or what? I think the muffler i have is a 3" tip as well. I just dont like the raspy noise, its bothering me. hah

took it out for another ride, and yea its like a high pitch / raspy noise. i wish there was a cheaper way to fix it rather then paying a shop 200$.. no way in HELL am i doing that. Oh well, as long as it dosent sound like a beecan rice mobile, im alright, i wish it was just deeper tone.. anyone got any clips of their cars revving up? id like to hear what some peoples cars sound like.. if my laptop didnt get stolen, i could show you all how mine sounds like

the reason its so expensive is because you are buying there parts (there markup)

you can get a resonator on summit.com and take it to them, should be less than 60 installed, get one that welds in and doesnt need any flanges

get rid of that fart pipe muffler you're probably using and get one suited for something with a big V8 engine. I have a muffler from a chevy truck on my Civ- 2.5" inlet/outlet and it flows 900 CFM. I doubt your civic will EVER need that kind of flow, and it's quiet. (I also have 2.5" exhaust). The muffler cost $19.99 with lifetime warranty, and about $40 for the axle-back/muffler/tailpipe installation.

well my muffler really isnt a fart tip, its actually a nice aftermarket exhaust, so what your saying is i need something that can handle more CFM? Where do you reccomend i look into getting one?

Check to make sure there are no leaks, they will make a sound like that.

Adding a resonator (bassically a glass-pack/cherry bomb installed under the car) will help. You can do it yourself, it is simple.

hell yeah bro, get a resonator and put it right before the bend on the midpipe. i got one from ebay from some place in california for 18 bucks. 15 to install. put "glasspack muffler" on the search box on the home page. anyways, i had it on for abotu a month with my stock header and it sounded nice, even with a cheap apc muffler. i just got a dc header and a maxspeed muffler and it sound awesome dude. no breaks in the sound at all really deep tone. hope it helps

Glasspacks are resonators are 2 diff things though, keep this in mind. Glasspacks usually do a much better job of quieting things down but they can become deteriorated after a year or 2. Resonators you can put on and forget about it.

I'm looking for a resonator that bolts to a JDM ITR header, 2.5" flange I believe. Know where I can get one?
