Default Engine Burning Oil

hey, im planning on selling my car this week to my dads friend. I have a 88 Dx hatch with the stock engine at 200 000kms, the problem is that it burns oil. My bro-in law is a mechanic and thinks it is the rings and will cost big money to fix. So i told the buyer, but i'm wondering if there is any quick fixes, like thicker oil or w/e to slow down the burning??
Thanks alot
Ray

Thicker oil will generally burn slower but it definately should not be considered a fix. Do a leakdown test to see if its the rings or the valve guides...head jobs are a bit cheaper than block jobs.
