blown engines....
hey, have any of you guys followed the threads on s2ki.com about the blown engines in the 00'/01' model s2000's that have been going on for like a year that has everyone paranoid? They do no have exact evidence, but they believe it has to do with the oil squirter bolts on the bottom end of the motor in the 00'/01's having two holes instead of four when they were redesigned on most of the 02'+.... I think they have had something like 20+ blown motors due to oil starvation mostly on cylinder+ 4 but they cannot trace it to being exactly this cause yet.... mine is a 01' with 23K miles and seems to run fine, do you think these are just isolated incidents or is it something to worry about? any insight would be appreciated......

From what I've heard, there have been 36 or so cases of this. So if you figure, that's about .2 percent of all cars (00-01), so I really wouldn't worry about it at this point. Just keep an eye on your oil levels and take note of any changes in your engine.
the intake manifold is of a bad design in which a swirl effect happends near the #4 intake runner so, the #4 cyl gets more air than the rest of the cylinders. Well thats what my friend told me through lots of reading the testing people have done.
honda is not accepting that it is a defect. All S2000's should see this problem if they see High RPM often. it happens when your around 9,000rpm a lot.

The oil jets are a problem but the 4th cylinder problem is much more problematic then that. If you do a search on s2ki for barrys engine block replacemnt thread you will find that there are many more problems then oil starvation causing engine failures, read the thread I simply do not have time to restate what hae has with so many referances.
On a personal not I am coming up of 45K on my 01 and it has only been to the dealer for one tsb and oil changes, still runs strong as the day they sold it to me.

the oil jets may have been a problem on his, but all those other 36 people did not have the bottom end taken out yet like he did to find out exactly if that was the case right? They said in that thread that the 00,01 do not have the updated oil jet bolts and some of the 02's do... but on the other hand... all those people may have overrevved a lot and something failed later. The engines dont always fail RIGHT when you overrev, it sometimes causes damage that happens later on..... what is the most miles you guys have seen on an 00' or 01' s2000?
also, some people believe it could be because of the way the dipstick is set up on the s2k that people actually think their level is ok but it is low since the draining oil from the head will hit the dipstick and cause it to look like it is full when it is not, what is the best method that you guys use for checking the oil? check it when the car is cold or what?
