When A/C isnt working, what might be the problem?
Does the compressor even turn on?
If not, then you most likely have a leak in the system. There is a safety feature that won't allow the compressor to turn on if it isn't charged. First thing to do is get it leak tested. They will usaully charge the system with a green dye that will indicate where the leak(s) if any, are in the A/C piping.

i would say that you have a low ammount of cooling agent. get it recharged and the pressure should be back up and you will be good to go.

when you hit the AC button the clutch should kick in... maybe it's not in your case. I've seen them ware out before over time

u can look at the pulley on the compressor when the ac button is on and the fan is on.. they clutch should kick on and off.
if its not cooling as good as it used to u need to have the r134a checked for older cars r12 but that **** is expensive these days.. most places will just convert it to r134a

yea get it refilled, and if theres a leak in the system, they can spot it, i need a new condensor for my civic and for my lude i need a new compressor haha sucks
i also have a couple probs with a/c, always on a hot humid day. in the beginning, the a/c light wouldn't even come on until i pushed the button repeatedly. now it always comes on (the light), but sometimes just blows air - it will even be cold for a bit, then conk out, then come back. was thinking maybe too much condensation somewhere, cause it's always humid days. has anyone had this conversion to r134a done and have a cost estimate. just wondering, cause how often does the refrigerant have to be changed, anyhow? enough to warrant conversion?

This is actually a fairly common problem with the 4th gens. It's not actually your AC system it's the Climate control. As stated above their light didn't even come on. The switches are pretty shitty and break. Even if the light is on a lot of the times the climate control won't turn on the AC. If you have taken your Climate control out chances are it got screwed. I know this might sound bad but when it isn't working bang on the thing with your hand. Not so hard you will break **** but hard enough to shake it. If it comes on then, climate control is your prob. If not then it's the Actuall AC system. If you go to any parts store they will sell kits to recharge your system. They don't work the best but they do also sell pressure gauges for them This will tell you if your system needs a recharge or if it has a leak.
It's a connection in the switch. You can't take the switch apart though because it's perm atached to the CC. You can take it apart and if the board feels loose in the case then put something in the back to push it foward. Yeah it's kinda Ghetto but junk yards want $100 for just the CC. New they are about $400 I think. I don't understand why since it's just a simple board.

sounds like your system is low on pressure or your pressure switch has gone bad... it will kick your system off... switch is located in the stem on your compressor that the big hose bolts to... I think.
