Default Trunk release via alarm system

Has anyone ever installed an alarm system (Viper in particular) with the trunk release solenoid? Did you use the DEI piece or the OEM Honda?

Thanks for any info!

Be more specific, DEI trunk release or Honda trunk release? If the Honda has an automatic trunk which would be a rarety and mainly in Acura cars than you can add a relay off the DEI alarm to send a signal to the trunk release wire.

In my honda the pull lever for the truck is a manual pull, not an electric charge so I can't set it up to release from a remote. It has to be like power locks that are triggerd by a pulse.

The DEI came to mind first. My girlfriend has a 97 EX with remote entry +trunk. I figure find the OEM solenoid if it's easier to install (in my EM1) than the DEI... since the DEI needs to be rigged to the release or release cable.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's an EM1? BTW, using an electronic OEM trunk opener with an aftermarket alarm will require some "rigging" as well.

Just get the kit, it's an easy install provided your alarm has remote trunk release output.
Remember most alarms only have a remote wire so you will need to rig a relay to a constant power wire or else you will repeatedly blow the alarm fuse.

EM1 = 2 door coupe, b16a motor, aka: 99 Si

Good point on the relay, which is mostly a definite since that solenoid will probably pull 2 to 3 amps for a 1/2 second or so.

You racer guys and your lingo, LOL. '99SI would have been more simple for guys like me.

The nice thing about OEM solenoids is that they make the install look cleaner. If you need the relay info, here it is:

86: 12v+ (fused)
85: Channel output from alarm (ground pulse)
30: Solenoid
87: 12v+ (fused)

Some Honda's do have electric trunk realeases. 98 and above integra's for one.

The NSX has an electric trunck release and pulls a cable. I think it would probably be easier to use an aftermarket model just not as reliable.
