Kaaz LSD Owners: Have you had your's rebuilt?
My Kaaz LSD no longer connect the 2 driveshafts and I'm told I have to replace only one set of clutch discs on the rebuild. Has anyone had their's rebuilt and can you share your experience? Does anyone know of a reputable rebuilder around Toronto?
2 years (40,000 km), 1 drag season. Should have gotten a Quaiffe. If anything I also should have gone 1.5 way rather than 2 way as the understeer is worst with the 2 way clutch type LSD. Sure you pay more up front for a Quaiffe but her I am paying for a rebuild already and I don't beat up on the car with big slicks and 7000 rpm launches.
so did you do the "lift the front, turn one wheel, watch the other turn" trick to see if the LSD was still working?? i too wish i had bought a Quaiffe. and now the prices are lower... mine still works after 20k miles.
Hi, do you guys have the problem of some noise, when you are making a slow turn? and is it ture that I can only use the Kaaz transmission fiuld? It is quite expensive, like CAN$70 a can.
Thanks

You're right 1.5 way is much less understeer. Go see Yoshio. He's in Toronto. 401 and Dufferin. YOu can convert your dif to 1.5 way. You should have the parts in your original box. What tranny fluid are you using. My Kaaz's last at least twice that long even with my signature burnouts.

1 way LSD's work under throttle only. 2 way LSD's work on and off throttle, so even slowing down, both wheels are turning via the clutch plates. 1.5 way is just what it seems like, its kinda in the middle. Some decelleration, but not the full amount. Much easier to learn on a 1.5 way than a 2 way, and easier on the internal clutch packs... EV.
Anyone ever used the ATS LSD? or Mugen or Spoon LSD? I was wondering how they compared if anyone used them or had problems with them.
ATS is supposed to be quite good and they have introduced their new carbon LSD's. Not much info on them yet since they are so expensive.
I forgot more about hondas then you will ever know....

ATS carbon lsd's have a much smoother enguagement over standard clutch type lsd's. it doesn't "click" as much. the ATS standard lsd has a locking rate of %98, whereas the carbon has only %90. but, it is much smoother. i just purchased the standard ATS lsd because i autocross frequently, and think i can use the extra %8. but, for a street car, the carbon would definately beneficial. i have driven/raced on the ATS final and lsd, so i know for sure it is worth the price of admission. but, since my car doesn't see too much street duty, i can not justify the price differance.
at the last R- speed meet here in ny, my friend brought the ATS carbon rotors and carbon clutch, and everyone was drooling. well, those at least that knew what they were.....

Dan,
the Kaaz GL5 price is the wrong side of ridiculous. So I am using Redline Gear Oil GL-5 75W90 at something of a more sane cost for a compatible lubricant.
I know Yoshio sinc he did my ECU in the days before there was Dynopower or DPE. He'd make a programming change, put the chip in, and with the O2 sensor stuck in my tailpipe, drive up HWY 400 to see how it did and drive back to make another change. Needless to say those were the dark ages before dynos in Toronto and the number iterations on the programming was limited to 2-3 HWY 400 runs! I've also dyno tuned with him at DPE. Needless to say the man has high rates...but you are getting what you are paying for and I respect his experience...of course, you wouldn't know about the rates since the US dollar is worth how much now in Canadian?
cheers

True. His rates are reasonable coming from US but for Canadians they are probably high. Still there is no one else I would trust for delicate work. Yes the old days. He did that with my old GSR to dial in the fuel curve back in the day. He stiull has to do that when beginning a new program base map. Street tuning a new injector size or ECU map usually takes around 4 hours plus another few hours on the dyno.
Damn it. Now I want an ATS carbon LSD. Sigh. . . .time to start saving.

What's wrong with the stock or Quaife LSD? Being a huge Audi fan, and hanging around a bunch of Porsche nuts, we all love Torsens. Best thing since sliced bread
They never slip, well.. okay, they can slip once... Low maint, super durable, and they work VERY well.

Mike,
I'm using BG synchroshift with my Kaaz, and 4 oz. of Ford friction modifier, works wonders and is absolutely quiet....right Dan?
